I Can't Check For New Versions

Hi

I have installed NIS 2010 (17.7.0.12)

If I open NIS, select Help & Support>Check For New Version all that happens is that I am taken to my browser's home page.  I am not redirected to any site whatsoever.

Why is this?

Thank you.

If it helps I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Hi Myrm,

Welcome to the Norton Community. Help & Support > Check for new version should take you to updatecenter.norton.com so this is definitely not right.

Your version of NIS is up to date currently. How long have you had NIS installed and have you had this problem all along? Do you or did you previoulsy have any other security software installed besides NIS? If you previously had another security software installed did you remove it prior to installing NIS? And if so how did you remove it? Security software should always be removed with the use of a special removal tool to ensure all remnants of it are gone before installing a different security product. The reason is because security software has to embed itself deeply into the OS to provide the protection you need and the typicall uninstall through Control Panel is not enough.

Do you have any other problems with your computer? Are you able to go to security websites such as security.symantec.com and mcafee.com?

Thanks

Allen

Hi

No, I had no other security programs installed.  I have no other problems with NIS and I am able to access the Norton/Symantec websites when browsing the Internet.

HI Myrm,

Thanks for the update. Let's have NIS check itself for problems. Please click on Help & Support > Get Support. Then click on Begin Support Session. NIS will check some things to determine if there is an identifiable problem.

Please let us know if it finds anything and after running the support session, please see if the problem still occurs.

Also from the Windows start menu please type the following in the search box.

http://updatecenter.norton.com and hit Return.

Just want to make sure you are able to use another method to bring up your browser and get to the Update Center.

Thanks and best wishes.

Allen

Hi AllenM

I tried something you mentioned and I uninstalled NIS using the removal tool.  I then reinstalled NIS and now the update checker thing works.

Thanks very much for your help.

HI Myrm,

Thanks very much for the update and I'm happy that it is working for you now. :smileyhappy:

Please make sure you run Live Update to make sure you are fully back up to date on NIS.

Best wishes.
