I have norton corporate, yet a virus with a window "S.M.A.R.T Data Recovery" has installed - fix?

I have Norton corporate, yet it has failed to prevent a virus coming through I think called ultradefrag? It popped up in the form of a window with a fake anti-virus “S.M.A.R.T Data Recovery” …how do i fix this, since this is exactly what symantec is suppose to stop from occuring?

Am I not on the forum, i thought that was where the message said it was getting sent?

thanks

Quads, might you be able to help me? I was tempted to download norton power eraser - would this help? i have been reading up on this virus and it seems to be one that makes all your files hidden - i did attempt to run a scan from symantec and it did detect a threat - I have now shut down the computer until I know what else to do...

You need to log into the forum itself as some of the scripts etc need to to be able to see all the instructions, logs and or attachments.

S.M.A.R.T  Data Recovery can come with zeroaccess, Pihar and / or MaxSS behins it.

NPE is not made for those,  as others have found out, use at your own risk, and if windows gets screwed, it's good luck to you.

I didn't say i was going to use it - I was asking if that was what i needed to use? I'm at a loss and don't know what to do, because i've never had a virus before - i have always had anti-virus protection and run daily scans....where do i go from here?

As I said log on to the forum not though Facebook.

ah I see... you could have said please register to make more sense as i only had an option to sign in via facebook, but the whole interface is exactly the same, so couldn't really understand the problem there

so confused right now, everything is exactly the same...

Are you able to get Safe Mode With networking??   If so, does the FakeHDD start up in that mode??

Quads

i have just left it alone, I haven't touched it yet...been working on my external HDD instead, got it working, now its gone again
So do i start up in safe mode?

There will be Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Networking as options   I want to test the with networking option,  as I want a program to be downloaded and run with the Infected account loaded but with the FakeHDD dormant,

That way I can break the FakeHDD only before looking for any other deeper objects.

I don't have wireless, i only have cable so can only connect one computer at a time. To open in "safe mode with networking" is that one of the options on start up - or is it just sfe mode, with my cable connected?

thanks

Safe Mode on it's own has no networking so you won't have any internet.

The way you are going a worrd of advice you should never try and remove malware on your own.

On the F8 on startup it lists the options to boot from,  it cleasrly lists  "Safe Mode with Networking"

Vista, Windows 7 just looks a bit flasher.

what I will try and do is start up with networking, but it means i'll be off here for about 15min, as I can only have internet open on one computer at a time

Just about to change over to infected computer - looks like safe mode is ok - giving me options to log in as administrator or myself

Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Networking is different       Choose with Networking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your own account.  (myself)

Yes, choose, safe mode and not to go into system restore instead
