Thousands of young people are pledging their support on Facebook and in schools around the country to protest the bullying of their lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender friends. The recent media attention to the tragic suicides of bullying victims like Tyler Clementi and Seth Walsh has encouraged LGBT supporters to select October 20th as Spirit Day. I’m wearing purple and so is my avatar on Facebook and Twitter.
Why the concern? According to Warren Blumenfeld's research on cyberbullying and LGBT kids, they receive MORE cyberbullying attacks than the rest of the youth population and they are more DEPRESSED and have more SUICIDAL THOUGHTS as well. Cyberbullying and bullying in general are not welcome in our cybercommunity and we must join together to raise awareness and end the cruelty.
