it says introductory 60 days can get 2009..how do i do that ? can someone answer it please. i tried going to support and search but cant find it....=(
Wait a minute here. Your saying that your 2006 version still has a 90 day trail on it? How old is your pc? Did you just get it? Did you ever pay after the 90 days? Why dont you just buy NIS 2009.
yea…it comes insde the laptop…hp pavilion dv2000 something…windows xp…bought like 2 - 3 years back and the subscription after set up is 60 days …
so yea…can anyone tell me if it can be transferred…best if a symantec employee though =P…if it cant…i will just give up and stop wasting my own time -.-
Your reply is not totally clear to me on the references to 60 days (we don't charge by the word so don't skip bits! <g>)
If your computer had a 60 days Trial installation of any generation Norton Product then you can't use the unexpired portion when updating. You get the trial period associated with the version you are installing which is 15 days for NIS2009.
If you bought a subscription in the past -- either directly or by installing a retail version -- then that unexpired period can be carried over for a range of back versions (not sure off the cuff how far back) but you cannot always get it added to the year of a new installation. It depends on how you update so the safest method is to use up as much of the old subscription as you can and then install the new version. That's just for background information since it does not apply to the situation as I understand you to describe it.
dont really understand what your talking about…i am not so good in english…sorry !!!..what i am saying is…when this computer starts.whether you start it for a 1st time or reformatt it…there will always be a norton internet security 2006 setup in it…well…i double click it…it says…you have 60 days of subscription…its not i trial i suppose…
the only thing i want to know is that whether i cant get this 60 days into norton 2009…i tried downloading in the webpage i mentioned above a few post before…but it just delete my norton 2006 and it restart the CPU and i have norton 2009 installing and its just a 15 days trial…
only thing i want to know is (1) can the 60 days be transferred ? any way ? (2) if it can be transferred…how ? there is no subscription key there…only the set up…(3) if it cant be transferred…should i just delete it away and use the trial of 15 days only ?
sorry if the post is too long…i am bad in english…
Tanmx, none of us are absolutely certain. But the feeling seems to be that no, you cannot transfer the 2006 product lifespan into a new 2009 product.
If your pc is 2-3 years old and NIS 2006 came preinstalled on it then that makes your subcription well over 900 days old. So well do the math yourself. Of course you cannot use it for NIS 2009. You subject of this thread was “Need Help”. What do you need help with?
Hi!
After reading a few posts on this thread, it seems that NIS 2006 is only a trial period. Since this is the case, when you upgrade to NIS 2009, you will not have the 60 days left on that trial. Only subscribed users with the product keys from NIS 2006- NIS 2008 can be offered the upgrade to NIS 2009 and have the remaining number of days on that subscription transfered to NIS 2009.
I hope this clears everything up!
Well..can i transfer my norton 2006 .... 60 day subscription to 2009....i mean i went to update section....i changed to 2009 and my 60 days subsription is not there....it said that ( 15 days remaining ( trial version ) ) my norton 2006 comes with the computer...no subscription key....its just a software in my computer...and only 60 days..so can i transfer ?
oh…ok thanks then -.- sorry for wasting all of you time…thank you.
"oh..ok thanks then -.- sorry for wasting all of you time......thank you"
No not at all, you did not waste my time at all, it was just a common misunderstanding.
I think the situation may have changed 2008 > 2009.
As you've said Norton did give instructions on how to get the necessary information from an OEM installation (but didn't touch on Trial versions) for upgrade rebate purposes and I came across that information on the Norton Web site but it was specifically a 2008 update rebate form.
But yesterday I also came to a page on the Norton Website with a box in the left margin that said categorically that it did not apply to a whole range of trial versions with periods running from 15 to 180 days.
Unfortunately I did not bookmark the pages but I'll look for them again and if I find them will post the links.
If it came with your pc then you should have a cd with the key. Your subcription is only good for a year. How long is your current subcription good till? You should have upgraded awhile ago to 2008. I think 2006 is too old. Did you try this link? You will need to completely uninstall your older version using the Norton removal tool.
