Issue abstract:
I can’t find the version number in my settings, but I’m on the most current version of Norton 360 Premier. I also have Malwarebytes installed on my Windows 11 desktop (updates are all current). Last week Norton detected a file on my computer and asked if I wanted to continue to block it. Since it was asking ‘conitinue to block’ I thought it must need to be blocked, so I said yes. The blocked file was DDSHelper.exe which I later found out is a safe file from Malwarebytes app. I have had nothing but issues logging in to a variety of web apps ever since - Shopify, Amazon, Costco, an HR program I use for work, Adobe, etc. I would like to remove the block on the file but don’t know how to and can’t find a support number for Norton in Canada. I thought perhaps I should just uninstall Norton and then reinstall but not sure if that would solve my problem. Can anyone shed any light on this, I’m afraid the tech stuff is not my forte and it’s making it super difficult to do my work without access to these apps. Note that I am still able to access the sites on my Windows laptop and my ipad without any issues. I would appreciate a number that I can call tech support so they can guide me through this.
Hello @LMac
Can you find the DDSHelper.exe event in Norton 360 → Security History, and if so, what actions are available?
===============================
DDSHelper.exe is a legitimate Malwarebytes component, and if Norton mistakenly blocked or quarantined it, Malwarebytes functionality could be affected. However, widespread login failures across Shopify, Amazon, Costco, Adobe, HR portals, and other sites suggest that something else may also have been blocked—possibly a browser-related component, certificate-related component, or network protection setting.
Check Norton Security History
Look for entries from the day the problem started.
Find the event mentioning DDSHelper.exe.
Click the entry and look for details:
If DDSHelper.exe was Quarantined
You can usually restore it:
Choose Restore or Create exclusion & restore
If DDSHelper.exe is Not in Quarantine
Then Norton may simply be blocking its activity rather than removing the file.
Review Security History for any Firewall or Intrusion Prevention events involving Malwarebytes.
A Quick Test
Open Malwarebytes and see if it reports:
Real-Time Protection disabled
Web Protection disabled
Missing service
Unable to start protection
If Malwarebytes itself appears healthy, then DDSHelper.exe may not be the root cause of the login problems.
A screenshot of the Norton Security History entry (with any personal information hidden) would be especially helpful.
====================================
Norton sometimes flags DDSHelper.exe (a legitimate Malwarebytes file) as suspicious. Blocking it can break login processes on many websites.
Here’s how to remove the block:
Steps to Unblock DDSHelper.exe in Norton 360
Quarantine
Look for DDSHelper.exe in the list.
Select it, then click Restore or Create exclusion & restore
If it’s not in Quarantine, go to Settings → Antivirus → Exclusions and add the file path there.
File location (common paths):
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\DDSHelper.exe
or
C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\DDSHelper.exe
================================
Norton 360 v26, when you find the DDSHelper.exe quarantine event, you’ll see these two options:
Restore
Create exclusion & restore
Recommended Action:
Choose Create exclusion & restore.
This will:
Unblock the file
Prevent Norton from blocking it again in the future
