I really wish Norton would not send tools/instructions in emails that are not from Norton.com

I received an email from nortonfromsymantec.com (instead of Norton.com) with links in the email to various tools that also link to nortonfromsymantec.com. When you click on the links they do then take you to norton.com, but I really don't like the fact it goes thru some other web site (nortonfromsymantec.com) which I don't know for sure is a legit site and therefore not exactly sure my browser some how got hijacked and just makes it look like I am on Norton.com (actually, I really wish no details at all were sent in an email, but instead the email just gave you a link from norton.com where you can get all the details and be comfortable it's legit).

PLEASE, would you do everything thru Norton.com instead of these other URLs. It's fine if it's nortonfromsymantec.norton.com, but not nortonfromsymantec.com. These viruses are getting smarter and smarter and it just really looks fishy seeing some other unknown URL I have to go to.

By looking at other post's on the forum I see that stuff from nortonsymantec.com is legit, but I really shouldn't have had to go thru other posts to find out.

Yes, I know about this, but I just disagree with this whole concept. But unfotunately it seems to be the norm now. On one occasion I went to setup a CD and GE Retail Bank sent me off to myoptimizerplus.com to setup the account. On another occasion on my mom's AT&T DSL account a few years back, it would send you to some other URL for diagnosing problems. How companies think this is a good idea is beyond me. IMO, all this is doing is making it easier for scammer's to fool you when it is now common place to send you to some other site. A really really bad idea.

In the link Krusty13 gave you, there is an explanation to change your preferences. Set them back to nothing and you will not be plagued anymore. I already did this when setting up my Norton account.

Actually if you are talking about the email preferences (https://manage.norton.com/Account#feature=preferences), mine are already set to not get product updates, offers and security newsletters. But you still get important security alerts which is exactly the way I want it. I just don't like the idea of companies redirecting you off of their main site that everyone is comfortable with is a good idea, especially a security company. The more prevalent this gets the easier it is going to get scammed because getting redirected will become a comfortable idea and no longer be an alarm that should be going off in your head. I just completely disagree with this redirecting business.

Okay, now I'm concerned about a Security Alert email I received on April 18th from:

Norton (Norton@nortonfrom symantec.com)   regarding the Information on Heartbleed.  Was this a legitimate email from Norton?

Thank you for any help to help calm my nerves about this now.

Keep well,

buoybells

Hi Yank,

Thank you for your response.  Put me at ease?  lol  I'm always on edge, and it doesn't take much to make me jump either.  Just wanted to be sure the links in that email were okay because I clicked on them.  For now on, I'll just come here, sign in and find what I need to know.

:robothappy:Keep well and safe, Yank
