I have Norton 360, version 20.2.0.19 and I have two problems with identify safe.
I have been using Norton on my computers for 13 years and identify safe ever since it’s been an option. This week I replaced Windows XP with Windows 7 on one of my computers which required download reinstallation of Norton 360. Reinstallation went very easy. But when I tried to set up my identify safe I ran into problems.
It began when I tried to set up the safe. It would not allow me to do it locally, which is what I remember always doing. It kept directing me to Norton’s website to set it up there. That’s when the second problem came in.
As it turns out I have two accounts with Norton under two different email accounts. However one account hasn’t had any purchases on it since 2007. The other account is the one with my purchases since 2007. So when I started following the identify set up in my Norton control panel I inadvertently typed in the wrong email address. Realizing that too late, I stopped and did not try to set up my identify safe. Now, at the top right of the Norton control panel, it says “Logged in as [email address]”. I can not find any place to log out. I went to that account at Norton and it had me logged in. I log out and restart the control panel and the log in is still there. Therefore, when I go back to the Norton account I am automatically logged in again. Neither logging off my computer account nor shutting down the computer changes any thing. So my next step was to uninstall Norton 360 and reinstall. That didn’t do any good either. The login was still there. So the first thing I need to do is get rid of that.
The second thing is, why I am being directed to Norton to set up my identify safe? As I stated earlier, I don’t recall having to do that before. It was always a local thing. So my question on this is how do I set up my identify safe account without having to go through Norton?
I probably need to point out that one of my computers is only a year old and came with Windows 7, and I did not encounter any of the problems mentioned above when I installed Norton 360 on it.
