I received a Norton email today advising of:
Norton Identity Protection
with the auto renewal of
your subscription at no additional cost.
Can I presume that Symantec is referring to the basic, lowest level of Lifelock?

markg2: I visited your link and above the FAQ's it says Norton's Identity is being retired 2/18 and they'd be glad to have you join (pay) for LifeLock ;-)
Norton Identity Protection Elite is being retired on February 28, 2018.
before Support page topics were deleted <here> e.g., "The page that you are looking for is unavailable". There used to be more info as I recall re Norton Identity Protection and Norton Identity Protection Elite.
I have the basic and complimentary Norton Identity Protection version is this being retired too?
This announcement only applies to Norton Identity Protection Elite. Our subscribers who have received a complimentary Norton Identity Protection service from Symantec will not be affected at this time.

The reason I said LifeLockl is that Norton adverts for LifeLock have been popping up on my desktop.

Norton Identity Protection is not Lifelock. It may have some similar features to the basic Lifelock. Here is an FAQ on NIP. https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/norton-identity-protection/current/info
Did the message specifically say Life Lock?
