Identity Safe Auto Fill Options

Since there hasn’t been any public feedback from Symantec on the examples provided by folks in this thread, I’m not wasting any more time playing with this either. According to other forum members, Roboform seems to be doing just fine with the new Firefox and/or IE7, so alternatives are obviously available. IMO it’s a useful but not critical security item anyway (assuming the security tools are keeping keyloggers off my machine) so turning it off seems a good choice for now.

Bravoleader, exactly how do you turn it off? And does the phishing protection still work?

Bring up the Norton Internet Security tab. Go to the Settings group -> Expand Transaction Security & Click Identity Safe -> Click Turn Off.

Phishing protection is in the same group & should still show as on. No more identity safe prompts & goofy behavior but the phishing protection is untouched.

OK  I have done that, thanks Bravoleader

I'm not giving up on Identity Safe yet.

Tony Weiss, is there still a chance, that this problem would be fixed?

Regards,

Dmitri

I had to disable it at work, but I do miss it.  I too would like to know if it’s going to be fixed.  Also, does anyone know if this behavior exists in the 2009 beta?

I guess thie problem only exists in my head.

Please note... ALL discussions about the 2009 public beta and 2009 product must take place in the 2009 Public Beta boards.   Only after the product is released it may be discussed in this board.

Thanks!!

Is this isssue of Identity Safe auto filling in places it’s not supposed to going to be addressed in the 2008 version?  Or the next one that I can’t mention here?  I use NIS 2008 both at home and my small business.  My home subscription is up for renewal in 3 weeks, and this issue will probably be the determining factor on whether or not I renew.  I’ve been very happy with the program otherwise.

If I could mention the public beta version’s Identity Safe in this thread, I’d say that it appears to be behaving in the few places I’ve tried it.

This has started since i updated to 15.5 from 15.0.0.60, (on 26/08/08), and happens in both IE7 and FF3.

I run and maintain an online browser based game and am having problems with the auto fill on it, also a few other sites ive noticed my email and username being added to fields that they shouldnt, but my main concern is on my site..

My login is set for www.bloodynation.com\login.php, so it should only fill in on that page, and did do prior to the new updates :(

but now when im replying to a users mail; www.bloodynation.com/mailbox.php?action=compose&ID= (+**userid**), in the userid text field it is replacing the userid with my username.. very annoying as i have to manually re-enter the users id.. and since i get quite a few mails each day.. it is becoming very time consuming to keep doing this.

this is the form code, if its any help in resolving this problem. i have checked on other sites that use a similar form, and that did not auto fill the userid field.

/*<form action='mailbox.php?action=send' method='post'>
<table width=75% border=1 bordercolor='#F89994'>
 <tr>
 <td><b> ID to send to: </b></td>
 <td><input type=text name='userid' value='{$_GET['ID']}' /></td>
 </tr>
 <tr>
 <td><b>Subject:</b></td>
 <td><input type=text name='subject' /></td>
 </tr>
 <tr>
 <td align=top><b>Message:</b></td>
 <td><textarea rows=5 cols=40 name='message'></textarea></td>
 </tr>
 <tr>
 <td colspan=2 align=center><input type='submit' value='Send' /></td>
 </tr>
 </table></form>*/

i dont really want to disable it as i have a terrible memory and the login is a life saver sometimes for me, and is the only reason i chose NIS over another security package.

mail reply, bloodynation.com

is there a fix for this, or is it best to uninstall NIS 15.5, FF3 and re-install 15.0.0.60 from my original disk and ff2?

Like i said, this is a problem since updating to the 15.5 definitely!! any help would be greatly appreciated ;)

I just did a chat with a support person. He had me delete logins that already existed for problem sites. It worked great until I had ID Safe once again remember those log ins. I guess this problem is not very widespread, because I can't seem to get across to support what the problem is. Here is an example. I use my user name and password to sign on to my Comcast.net email account. I have ID Safe store that info. When I go to the next screen, it fills in my user name in the "search email" field. This same behavior occurs in both IE7 and Firefox 3 since the 15.5 update. It also occurs on 4 different computers.

This is probably going to sound wierd, but if the web page you use to get email from had the same “appearence” to the ID safe (uses the same address before all the / marks) the site IDer can be fooled into putting the incorrect data in a blank.  There just wasn’t any place to put the password since there is only one field.  I have a page that I use that has multiple login areas, and each may get filled before they get submitted.  One of the areas is to input what the graphic says.  Since it can’t get filled automatically, This usually bombs out and I have to manually log iin to that particular site.  Since I didn’t write the code for the site, it is hard to explain what is going on to the webmaster since they don’t use the same software that I do.  Since I got nowhere trying to work with the webmasters, I simply set the ‘never for this site’ mark and the problem is solved.  I know this isn’t the way you want it to work, but I haven’t found a way around this either.

ID Safe fails for me when I log into my bank to pay bills etc. It fills the date field of the bill paying screen with my logon. Just removing it from that field isn't enough because when I move to another field to pay another item, ID sticks the logon into another date field.

I had the same problem with the Norton contact person. They seem unable to understand anything and are quick to dismiss it. Not what you really want from support.

I never use ID safe on any password/login that my livelyhood depends on.  If someone were able to get one password, they have everything.  Not really a good thing.  I don't use the same password twice either.

Hello,

Having upgraded my Norton Systemworks 2004 to 2008 I could then no longer use Password Manager, so had to invest in NIS. I imported the old data over and started using. I too am having the same sort of problem that my login details get filled in where they should not, and I do not seem to have any control over it. Please see this link which gives a screenshot of what is happening. I deleted all the urls from Identity Safe for these websites so started from scratch. It asked if I wanted it to remember the login (for the main index page) ..... but still same problem, no matter what page with Admin I went to, it filled in most of the boxes with my name and or name/login.

This is a major problem and Norton needs to get it sorted. Password Manager never did that. I am so tempted to just uninstall the upgraded systemworks I got and put back 2004 just so I can use Password Manager again.

Please someone, get Norton to see this IS a huge problem and needs to be fixed and soon. The evidence is there, in the screenshots, what more do they want.

Desperate and Disappointed

Mandyjay

They have had enough evidence but choose to ignore it. If you don't acknowledge the problem, you don't have to deal with it.

This is a very bad attitude for such a company as Symantec. I have been using Norton since 8 years but I am tempted to change to another protection system. There is enough competition out there Symantec!!!

I think this is bloody hilarious!!!!!!! This problem with Identity Safe Log-Ins/Fill With Cards has been ongoing ever since everyone updated N.I.S. 2008 to Version 15.5.0.23. No Remedy, No Patch From LiveUpdate, No Solution, No Support, No Fix, etc. (From Admin to Mods to everyday Joe's have tried to help this lonely, horrific, terrible crisis/cause) And so on and so forth. If this issue is not corrected/resolved with either an upgrade to/in N.I.S. 2008 soon, or the newest version in Beta Testing now N.I.S. 2009/2010, Norton/Symantec is/are going to lose a lot of folks/business to their competitors if this hasn't happened already by now. Everyone/Everybody at Norton/Symantec is/are well aware of the Problem, Bug, Flaw, whatever & nothing has been done up to this point. I have tried all that has been suggested by Norton/Symantec and others on this forum with No Correction. I spent countless hours, numerous ways, to get Identity Safe to work/function properly, but to no avail or resolution. With the Only Exception being to Turn It Off Completely and that defeats the purpose the of program entirely. You would think after 6 long, detailed pages here from tons of customers/consumers this would have be taken care of by now, but here we are still, with No Word/s. I may sound like I am fuming mad, which I am to say the least, but I just wanted to state the facts for the record for all to see and record for themselves just so that maybe just maybe someone at Norton/Symantec will figure this puppy out now rather than later and take this matter seriously!!!! I don't/didn't mean to go off, but something must be done. Come on now. I doubt it very much if it is an issue with Firefox 3, Windows Vista, Internet Explorer 7, and/or any other possible program conflicts. Maybe this is just a ploy to have all current N.I.S. Users move to Norton 360, which by the way, I DO NOT EVER plan to do/use. I will take my Antivirus/Firewall Protection with me to someone/somebody that cares if that be the case or scenario. Bobbie

P.S. Almost forget to mention the hundreds of Snipping Tool, Snag-It, Windows Screen Captures, Screenshots I have and anyone else has submitted. Might I also add this occurs on nearly any and every web page I go to using Firefox and/or Internet Explorer-Replaces/Inputs the Incorrect Information.

I am sure Norton must accept that this is a problem, they can't not. However, Customer Relations is low on their priority list. It would help diffuse the situation greatly if Norton would at least admit it is a problem and that they are trying to deal with it. We all know that with updates and things bugs can occur, but we do at least expect the company in question to be on top of the situation. Admit there is a problem, and to keep people informed of progress. To just totally ignore the customer/situation is doing them zero good. If they are dealing with it, then they should let us know so we can stop stressing out over it.  I know if this is not resolved or acknowledged by end weekend I will replace with a product that does work and never buy/upgrade a Norton product again as their service is the poorest I have come across in a long while.

I have so often recommended Norton products on my forums when people have asked what they can use. I still think most of their products are absolutely top notch, which is why I have always stuck with them, but I would not recommend them any more simply because the after service, when it really matters, is non existent.  This is the first time I have really needed help from them, and it is just not forthcoming.

Very sad ....

MJ

since there has been no response from a norton/symantec rep on here regarding this i contacted them via live support chat today. i explained the situation and showed them this post also an example of the problem whilst they had remote access to my pc so they could see what was going on.

it was determined by the norton/symantec assistant that i should uninstall the ff3 and nis 15.5 and revert back to ff2 and nis 15.0.0.60.

i have just done this and all the logins are fine now.

THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE NIS 15.5  UPDATE!!
