Identity Safe & change from Norton Internet Security to Norton 360 Premium

My NIS 2010 subscription ends tomorrow (installed Aug 22, 2010), and I purchased N360 Premium v 5.0 to install on three separate units.  What needs to happen with my Identity Safe information in preparation for the change?

I don't want to lose the numerous website identities & passwords; and I'm not crazy at notion of having to manually copy paste the information to some data form to save.

Cautions? Information? Helpful suggestions, please?

Hi Islander_4_Ever,

Use the Identity Safe Backup Data option to create a .npm file backup of your data.  You can then restore this to the new installation.

You can also export the data to a .csv file to view the contents in plain text, but you cannot use the .csv file to restore the data to Identity Safe.

Thanks for help. I’ve exported & saved the file & will do the install tonight or tomorrow when I’m home.

Technically, there is a difference between backing up and exporting.   Just to be clear, exporting to a .csv file won't help you.  You need to create a backup, using the Identity Safe Backup option, which saves the data as a .npm file that can be restored.   I'm sure that's what you meant, but thought it best to double check with you, just to be sure..

I followed the directions and created the .npm file and successfully saved it unto a usb drive.

I installed N360 prem v5.0 -- after it automatically (and slowly) uninstalled NIS2010.

I know information is stored, but can't get Norton toolbar / Identity Safe on Mozilla Firefox ver 3.6.17 (yes, I've been resisting upgrade in that area).  Open to suggestions.  Will check back tomorrow.

Firefox is at version 3.6.20, so you need to update from 3.6.17 for security reasons.  I believe this is the last update that will be available for Firefox 3.6 so you may soon be forced to join the parade of new disposable versions that are being heaped upon us every other month.  Also run Norton LiveUpdate repeatedly with reboots until it indicates that no further updates are available.  Right click in the Firefox menu bar and make sure the Norton Toolbar entry appears and has a checkmark next to it.

Response Actions - Results:

  1. OK - update from 3.6.17 to version 3.6.20
  2. OK - Norton LiveUpdate run repeatedly with reboots until no further updates are shown as available
  3. OK - Right click in the Firefox menu bar
  4. ?? - make sure the Norton Toolbar entry appears and has a checkmark next to it. NO SIGN OF NORTON TOOLBAR LISTING UNDER View » Toolbars OR any other location.

I'm running out of patience with Norton ....

I am a little concerned about your comment that it took a long time for the installer to remove NIS.  How long did it actually take?  Although the Norton 360 installer should remove NIS completely, we usually recommend first manually uninstalling the existing program if it is not the same as the new program.  If you do not see the Norton Toolbar in Firefox Add-ons, you may want to try the Norton Removal Tool and then reinstall Norton 360 to make sure you get a good, clean installation.  If you do this, be sure to keep that Identity Safe backup handy.

FINALLY, SUCCESS!

I don't know if it was just the matter of time or what, but everything is working as it should today.

Seriously, though, I believe the Firefox update installation didn't happen properly until after I shut off the computer last night.

The cold boot today probably allowed Firefox to start up without the residual memories prior to the update to 3.6.20

I should add that installation went without a hitch on the second computer.

Just the laptop to go.

Thank you very much for all your assistance in getting this resolved.  I hope someday to be able to do the same.

You're welcome.  Glad to hear everything is working.
