Idle/Automatic Tasks question

Hi all,

I want to know more about the Automatic tasks that norton 360 undergoes.

From what I understand the automatic tasks include everything except Virus and spyware scanning.This is what I see whenever I enter the Tasks Scheduling settings in Norton 360.

However shouldn't Virus and Spyware scanning be one of those included in the automatic tasks? I think that the automatic tasks is pointless without the virus scanning.

I may be wrong, but I am just asking to make sure, because now that I think about if what I say is true than I haven't scanned my computer in a looooong time.

Thanks

In the settings you can schedule only the PC Tune-Up function’s (defragmentation, clean ups, etc.).
Plus Norton has the Idle time scanning function what runs automatically quick and full system scans (it can only turned on/off in the antivirus settings, by default it is turned on of course).

Hi SekharB,

If you wish to do so you can check on what has been run (I.E. the last time a scan was done) by going to the 360 main windows, click on Tasks and then View Security History and then change View to Scan Results. It will list all the types of scan done in a while.

Ahh! Thank you mumford6, that answered my question.

I checked the  scan results history in norton 360 and I clearly see several idle quick scan results entries and about two idle full scan results entries over the past couple of days. Thats good! seems like it does more quick scans than full scans during idle time but that makes sense.

I believe I remember reading (for version 2) that the quick scan was setup to run everytime an idle liveupdate was run, or something close to that effect and I assume some kind of similar scheme is employed here.  Then again, you know what they say about assuming :)

Glad you are getting the answers you are looking for. There are some very helpful and intelligent contributors here, so if there is any else please post back. {Although I think I have support baffled with a couple of issues of mine :)}

Take care,
