Idle Quick Scan not running as usual

Yesterday I booted up about 6am.  When I checked the Norton Tasks list later in the afternoon, I noticed the Idle Quick Scan had not run.  Other Norton tasks had run during idle time as usual.  Before yesterday, the Idle Quick Scan had typically run 3-4 times a day.

This morning I booted up again at 6am.  I just checked the list and the Idle Quick Scan has not run although other tasks have run as usual.  This never happened before yesterday.  I’m curious why it suddenly started acting this way.  Has anyone else noticed this change?

Hi KB

On weekends, there are usually 1 less idle quick scans. The one that occurs during the middle of the night doesn't occur. For some people this is on Sat. and Sun. nights.  I guess it depends on where you are located. For me, I notice this every Sun. and Mon. nights. Last night the idle quick scan that usually runs around 3 AM didn't run. I suppose the people that do the virus definitions and put them on the Symantec servers have a couple of nights off a week.

If this is the first time you have noticed this, then that is something else again. Please take a look in your scan history and check to see if there aren't like 2 nights in a row in one week where this has occurred on a weekly basis.

          dbrisendine,

I used the NRT and then did a clean install of NIS 2010.  For Win7, I did an upgrade from VISTA on Nov 1st.
The Full System scan usually runs every 7-8 days, so it should happen today or tomorrow.   Will let you know if anything turns up.  I ran Malwarebytes this morning and nothing got flagged.  I’ll run SUPER AntiSpyware this afternoon.

Hi floplot,

I look at the task list every day to see what's going on.  I've never seen this happen with the Idle Quick Scan before yesterday.  I checked my recent Scan History and it had always run 3-4 times a day until yesterday.  I just looked at the task list and I see it ran today at 12:37pm.  I'll look to see if it runs again later.

Hi KB

Ok. I've noticed it all year with my NAV 2009 that on Sunday's and Monday's there is one less idle quick scan run. Maybe it's different with the 2010 version and with NIS. I'm also checking all the time.

If you do a manually Quick Scan, does it run normally and complete or does the scan hang at the start?

dbrisendine, when I run it manually, it does run normally and always takes less than 90 seconds to complete.

It would be nice if the "last run" column was a little wider so we can make out the times better. AM/PM is often cut off.
