Hello,
This is only my second post to this forum, so I apologize for any errors I may have made.
This morning, 6/2, I experienced problems almost identical to those in my first post on 3/15/09.
Early this morning I opened my NIS 2009 interface to see "how things" were going. I am on the latest version 16.5.0.135.
The first problem I saw was that my definitions showed updated 1 hour ago, but when I clicked on that, it showed the last update was 5/31 at 6:53 AM. Normally the updates always show only a "few minutes" ago, never longer than that. Also, there's the discrepancy between that 1 hour and the date and time difference since I was looking at it on 6/2 at about 7:50 AM.
I then clicked on the CPU Usage and saw that almost all of the tasks were showing completed dates of 5/30 - which is most unusual. Again, most tasks show complete within the last 24 hours compared against the time I'm viewing the info. Automatic updates usually show they ran more recently than that. Only the idle full scan goes back about 7 days.
What really stood out was that the idle quick scan was highlighted in yellow and showed "running" with a date of 5/30. Also, the idle full system scan was also highlighted in yellow even though it showed completed on 5/26. The quick scans always complete in a very short time, and nothing that shows "completed" ever remains highlighted. Apparently something froze somewhere.
I then went back to the main interface and clicked on "History". The Security History screen opened up O.K., but when I selected "Scans" from the drop down menu, the application froze and I could do nothing further with it. Task manager showed NIS 2009 had stopped responding, and I had to click end task.
The resulting Microsoft Error reporting dialog box then showed me a "hung app" - "MCUI32.exe 16.5.0.134. That was a cause of concern since I had been successfully updated from that version back in March and my "about" still shows version 16.5.0.135.
I then opened the main interface again and tried the one click support - but that didn't work out either. It said: c:\docume~1\user name\locals~1\temp\nptp.csv - the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
At that point I closed everything out and decided to restart my computer, only to find that ccSvcHst was not responding, and I had to "end task" on that before I was able to complete the restart.
As I had to leave for work, I didn't have the time to investigate further to see if everything was running O.K. again. Nor did I look in the Event Viewer to see if there were clues there.
Let me state again that the last time this happened was 3/15 when I was still on version .134. After the upgrade to .135 everything has been working perfectly up until this morning. For the record, the last time this happened, live support did an uninstall and reinstall which brought me to the 16.2 version - it was only a few days after that when I automatically updated to the 16.5.0.135 version.
I don't know if I've got only one problem that causes the other problems, or if there is more than one issue here.
When I get home from work I can see how things have gone during the day. In the interim, if anyone has some suggestions or things for me to look at, I would be most appreciative. My experience has shown this forum to be the best place to get solutions to problems.
BTW, I'm not running any other security apps, and am on XP SP2.
Thank you.
