Norton Security. If I leave the Win10 pc long enough for the idle-time scanning to start, then return to the computer, it can take as long as 5 minutes for the norton scanning to stop, as manifested by slowness and jerkiness of other activity, and Norton activity seen in task manager/resource manager. This makes it hard to use the computer during that time. I have allowed it to complete a "full scan", but that didn't seem to make any difference. It's set on auto update.
As I understand it, there's no way to disable idle-time scanning (which would be a reasonable solution for this problem), so any other ideas?
Norton Background Tasks will close as soon as you begin using the computer again. The Quick Scan is the exception, because it is considered to be a priority item. It generally takes less than 5 minutes, so letting it get a quick start should help. That's the best advice I can give, because there is no way to disable it.
TY for responding.
1) Doesn't really address the problem of how long it does take for the idle-time scan to "clean up" and stop.
2) I see in Norton's "Background Tasks" that Norton Insight may be the thing ending slowly; currently it's been running for 4 mins after I returned to the computer, and the list shows that it's been running for 34 minutes.
Set the Idle Time Out option in Norton settings to one minute. That will get any needed scans or other background tasks underway as soon as the PC is idle so you have a better chance of them being completed before you return to using the computer.
