I installed NIS2009 last week and since then my IE7 is moving noticably slower and some website pages don't load their contents. In particular, the "comments" which are displayed after with the articles on my favorite newspaper sites. One of several things happens:
it just pretends I've not clicked the "show comments" button; it begins loading and the little circle rotates showing it's loading, but never stops spinning and never loads the comments; or it does load but takes several minutes as opposed to several seconds.
A little background: I'm using IE7, installed all the latest critical updates (same with
Java and Windows XP using Service Pack 3), Using DSL. I Added Norton Internet Security last week.
BTW, the sites I'm having the biggest trouble with are www.nytimes.com and www.washingtonpost.com.
Any ideas on what I should turn on or off to get the Internet back to normal would be great! Thanks.
Hi jaynashvil,
Disable the Smart Firewall from NIS 2009 temporarily and then try to access those Web pages. If the problem persists, try disabling the Phishing Protection under Identity Settings. Let us know the results.

Jaynashvil:
Included in that website for New York Times is Googlesyndication.com, questionmarket.com, doubleclick.net and tacoda.net.
The Washington Post also has marketwatch.com and custom.marketwatch.com
It's interesting what is included in legitimate sites that might slow down antiphishing while it checks four or five sites instead of just one.
Hi there,
Temporarily disabling the Firewall didn't make any difference BUT disabling Antiphishing did help a lot. It didn't fix every page I try to access, but certainly most of them.
I've read numerous places that running two competing protection programs was trouble, so on IE7, under Tools/ Internet Options/ Advanced/ Phishing Filter, I checked off their "Disable Phishing Filter" as well. Since I've never fooled with the settings on IE7, are there other things I should check or uncheck under "Browsing" like "Disable script debugging (internet explorer)" or under the "Security" headers?
Thanks much for your help!
mine loaded without any problem in evey browser and without changing any setting anywhere!
As I said, turning off the Phishing has helped, BUT, it is still taking a minute or two for some pages to load, and that’s just way too long --especially for pages that are mostly text. Any other ideas on how to bring using the Internet back to a reasnable speed? I’m becoming very frustrated waiting and waiting… Thanks folks.
