IE8 and IE9 Extremely Slow. Chrome As Fast as Ever on Vista Laptop

Since I installed IS2013 Browsing almost anything with IE8  and then IE9 is super slow. I stared out with IE8 and installed IE9 to see if it would fix the problem. No change. An example of slow, loading Yahoo's home page takes 1 1/2 minutes to 2 minutes. Using Chrome, it is as fast as ever. I have installed the most recent IS 2013 update. No help. Is anyone else having this problem? Help!!

This computer has Vista which I mentioned in the subject line. The Norton IS 2013 version 20.2.1.22 was updated this morning. And yes, this happens on nearly all web sites. On a very simple site like Google's home page, response is instantly.

I guess I'm going blind - sorry I miissed the Vista - can I assume SP2?

Do you have any other security programs which run in real time installed?

How long has NIS been installed and did you have another AV installed prior to initially installing NIS 2013?  If so how was it removed?  NIS removed it, via Control Panel prior to NIS install, did you run any removal tool for it prior to install of NIS?

SP2 is yes. There has never been another AV on either one of my computers including this one. My prior release was NIS 2012. NIS 2013 was installed about two weeks ago.

Thanks for the info, is there by chance any pther security type program that could be running in real time - such as Malwarebytes Antimalware Pro or SuperAntiSpyware Pro, or Spybot Search and Destroy with Tea-ime enabled?

Please click on Support from the main page of NIS and the Get Support > let i t update and then run and let it fix anything it can.  Please let us know if it finds or fixes anything.

Did you do an over the top upgrade to NIS 2013 or did you uninstall NIS 2012, run the Norton Removal Tool and then install NIS 2013?

Sorry for all the questions, but we need all that info to figure out where to go with this situation.

There has never been another Security program of any kind put on this computer. I ran the test you asked for. The message that came back was 'We did not find any issues with Norton Internet Security'.

The install was an over the top upgrade.

Thnaks for the feedback, as I sit here scratching my head as everything sounds good.

Please verify that there was not a trial AV installed when it was new that could have remnants left that just now are affecting the system with the latest updates?  I now you said "never" but felt it necessary to ask in order to eliminate that.

Is it possible that your Vista is a 64 bit version and you are using the 64 bit version of IE?

More and more it looks like a cklean install of NIS may be called for.

I went back and verified that there was never another AV installed. The computer is a Dell and came with NIS 2007 installed. I cannot find any sign of another AV on the system.

The Vista system is 32 bit. I don't know how to check the IE9 for if it is 32 or 64 bit. I'm sure that I installed the Vista 32 bit version. I can check it if you can tell me how. Thanks.

I do computer repairs and recommend NIS to all my customers.  Many are calling to complain about IE9 being slow with NIS 2013 and Norton 360.  They have Win XP 32 Bit, Win7 64Bit and all are current with both MS & Norton Updates.  I am also experiencing the problem on my 5 systems.  The only system not having the problem is the one that I haven't installed NIS 2013 on as yet (My test system).

Web Pages are slow to load, many web-sites require multiple (two or three) access attempts to load.  Switching pages is also slow.  I have Road Runner Turbo-Lighting 60MB service in my office.  Working with my Win7 64bit system, I have reloaded NIS 2013 Twice, removed and reloaded Adobe Flash & Shockwave twice, reloaded JAVA and set IE9 to "No Add-On's Active".  As a last resort, I have disabled NIS 2013 and all operation is normal.

I think the interface to IE9 is suspect.  I have used Norton Products for 15 years and this is the first time I have seen a problem like this.

Very old Vista Home Basic laptop (Compaq Presario F500EA) and no slow-down probs with IE9+NIS2013 30days trial here...

Could be a problem with your pre-installed software, often source of many strange problems.

On my Vista 32 bit system, I was running IE8 when I installed NIS 2013. After installing NIS 2013, this problem began. I installed IE9 thinking it might fix the problem. It made no difference at all.

Please  open IE, select Help > About.  The screenshot is of the 32 bit version.  The 64 bit version would have 64 Bit inside the circle.

I suggest to uninstall your current NIS 2013 (keep your serial number), then run the Norton Removal Tool to clean-up the system, re-download it from Norton site and re-install NIS2013 from scratch.

Please, check you don't have installed some other plugins/Active-X that may slow-down your IE...

Hi LucaLongone,

We are working toward a reinstall, but making sure everything else is OK prior to doing it.

Your suggstion to check other plugins/Active-X is a good idea - but you may also need to be repared to provide instructions if the zjjones asks for them! :smileywink:

Ok ;)

I answered your question earlier. This is a reprint of the answer.

If you use Identity Safe for your Logins, please back it up (export) the data so it can be Restored (Imported) after you install a fresh copy of NIS.

Plese remove the copy of NIS you have installed, using the Control Panel uninstall via  Programs & Features.

Download and run the Norton Remvoal Tool and reboot after it is completed. The NRT can be found here: https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?docid=20080710133834EN&product=home&pvid=f-home&version=1&lg=english&ct=us

Download a fresh copy of NIS v 20 from here:

www.norton.com/nis20

Once installation is complete, open NIS and manually Run LiveUpdate as many times as necessary for it to respond "no more updates found". If a reboot is requested, reboot and then continue to Run LiveUpdate until it responds "no more updates found" and then reboot one last time.

Once totally updated, don't forget to Restore/Import your ID Safe data.

Please keep us posted.
