The SmartScreen Filter in Internet Explorer 8 (v. 8.0.6001.18702) disables every time I restart my IE8 web browser or open a new browser tab, and it appears that the antiphishing feature of NIS 2009 (v. 16.5.0.135) is the culprit. If I close the Norton Toolbar in IE8 or turn off antiphishing from the main NIS 2009 menu, SmartScreen remains turned on after I restart my browser. As soon as I enable the Norton Toolbar or turn on NIS 2009 antiphishing, SmartScreen keeps disabling.
Is anyone else having this problem? The posts related to SmartScreen at http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&message.id=45732&query.id=118187#M45732 claim that there no problem running both NIS 2009 antiphishing and IE8's SmartScreen Filter at the same time. I also have a problem with Windows Defender turning off every time I re-boot my PC, but the Windows Defender problem is a known bug that is being addressed by Norton (see separate thread at http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&thread.id=41266&page=1&view=by_date_descending). I'm not sure if the two problems are related.
I own a HP dv6835ca Pavilion notebook PC running under Microsoft Windows Vista 6.0.6001 SP1.
