If I already have Full Norton Mobile Security, do I still need Norton Halt for Android 4.1?

I have the full paid version of Norton Mobile Security installed on my Android 4.1 phone, do I still need to install Norton Halt to protect me from the Android master key vulnerability?

Unfortunately, NMS does not currently protect you against the Android Master Key vulnerability. However, as Andmike recommended, having Norton Halt installed will give you that extra layer of protection as it does indeed protect you against the vulnerability.

How about Norton Halt and Norton Mobile Security Paid version and protection against CVE-2013-6271 as identified as a vulnerabilility in my Norton protected Android 4.1.1 phone? Should I even bother to run the Belarc Security Advisor app for Android?

Thanks.

Hi gusgilbert.

If by CVE-2013-6271 you mean the lock screen bypass then Norton Halt has covered that since December 2013 I believe.  As for Belarc Security Advisor I have no experience of it.  I work on the assumption that the Norton team know more about mobile threats than I do and rightly or wrongly I normally rely on them.  I believe that Belarc says it can be used with other products.  If you do decide to try it do let us know what you think.

I think that most people put complete trust in Norton Mobile Security not realizing that Norton Halt is even available or compatible or that Norton Halt is needed in addition to Norton Mobile to protect against the Android "Lock-Screen-Bypass" and also the "Master Key Exploit" vulnerabilities in Android versions 4.0 through 4.3.

It would be helpful if Norton Customer Service emailed at least all of the PAID FOR FULL Norton Mobile customers that the FREE Norton Halt program is available and recommended for at least these two exploits that are NOT covered by Norton Mobile Security!!!!

I used the highly rated FREE Belarc Securtiy Adviser Android app from the Google Play Store to scan my PAID Norton Mobile Security protected phone to find that my Android 4.1.1 phone is vulnerable to the above noted exploits. Otherwise I would not have searched and found that Norton Halt is available for protection above and beyond Norton Mobile. I recommend the Belarc Security App in addition to the Norton Mobile Security and Norton Halt.

I have the full paid version of Norton Mobile Security installed on my Android 4.1 phone, do I still need to install Norton Halt to protect me from the Android master key vulnerability?
