If I renew per a Norton offer, will I get Norton Security Deluxe or Norton 360 Deluxe?

Norton sent me a notice with a deal to renew my Norton Security Deluxe for another year.   The offer does not mention Norton 360.   I had assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that they were ultimately forcing everyone to change to Norton 360 at some point.  So are folks who are currently using Norton Security grandfathered in to keep renewing the same product for now?   In other words,  if I respond to that offer and renew my Norton Security Deluxe, will it keep me in Norton Security, or will it switch me to Norton 360?  Thanks for info.

Glad I could help. Thanks for posting back.

That does sound like the legitimate Norton renewal process.

A couple of things to check.

  • Did you get a price quoted when you followed those links? If so, was it a higher price than if you just upgraded to the new 360 product? Renewals are usually more expensive
  • If you are looking at this option, be sure you have turned off Automatic Renewal for your current subscription or you might get billed twice.

Yes, I went ahead and purchased via that method from inside the Norton GUI, and it worked fine.   As soon as I clicked "Renew" in the Norton interface it offered a year at 19.99.  I thought it would be higher, so I was surprised and took up the offer.   After paying, my Norton GUI was immediately updated with the newly-renewed subscription.  When paying, it made me accept the Norton Lifelock license and Global Privacy statement, and it did warn me that the CC info would be retained and used for future payments when the year expires, but I can cancel that auto-renewal later, if desired.

And as you recommended above, I made sure there was no credit card info in My Norton account before purchasing that way.   I had never entered any before, so in my case it was moot.  But if someone has card info and auto-renewal in that account, I can see how it might charge an existing credit card a higher price or a duplicate charge.

Thanks!

  • As I noted above, I'm not sure how long you will be able to hang on to the older product. Norton is pushing to get all users on the one product platform, Norton 360, to help make support a little easier in only having one product to support.

Yes, due for renewal pretty soon.  However, it's not an email offer. I opened the Norton GUI, and out of curiosity clicked the "Renew" link under "Subscription status" at the bottom to see what would happen. It opened my browser and took me to a secured website renew.norton.com, which has the offer details and a Buy Now button which when clicked, takes one to the site buy.norton.com. Both sites are secured websites verified by DigiCert. It all appears legit. I just didn't know I could continue in Norton Security (at least for now.)

Is your subscription due for renewal?

First be sure that this is a legitimate Norton email. Is this email from Norton legitimate?

If this is a genuine Norton reminder, it will renew whatever product you are currently subscribed to. At some time you will get upgraded to the new 360 product with the same number of activations as you currently have.

If it is not a genuine Norton email offer, just delete the email
