Ignore outgoing email

I have been using NIS 2012 beta for several months.  Ocassionally I need to sent about 20 emails out at once and twice now I get a Symantec Pop-up warning me, (sorry, I didn't print the message), something to the effect that outgoing email messages were being blocked.  In a previous posting, there was an article on Ignoring Email Settings and holding your mouse over Email Protection and telling it to ignore the outgoing messages.  I did that and a few days later sent 20 emails and got the same message.  I have a couple of questions.  Did NIS in fact block the emails and they weren't sent?  I saw them being placed in the Outlook Outboox and saw them in the Sent folder I specified.  Because the NIS 2012 beta is complete, I've reinstalled NIS 2011.  What do I need to do there to ensure the emails go out.

Thanks,

Chuck

What you descibe actually just tells Norton to ignore the Email Protection "On/Off" status so that you do not get a "Fix Now" alert when you have email scanning turned off.  The email scan settings themselves are located in the Network Settings.  If you go there, you will see that outgoing email scanning can be disabled, although as mentioned in my previous post, this setting is likely not involved in the issue you are having.

SendOfJive, thank you for your explanation.  Given your comments, do you think Comcast blocked the emails and didn't send them/forward them to the intended receipient?  Also, in the link you provided and I realize you acknowledged that it might be out of date, Comcast has a limit of 1000 per day.  I sent 20.  Short of contacting the receipients, is there a way to verify that the emails were sent?

It would be really useful to know what the notification actually said.  Twenty messages does not seem like a lot.  Was there a large attachment included?  Outlook can also sometimes get messages stuck in the outbox, as explained here:

You probably should check with an intended recipient or two to see if they in fact did receive the message.  Normally, a failed delivery notification will include an SMTP error code and a vague description of the problem.  Without those, it would be difficult to know for sure what happened to the messages.
