Hi boongsong
In addition to what peterweb has posted may I suggest that before reinstalling the operating system you download the removal tool for the trial security software and the version of Norton and save it to external media. Then physically disconnect from the Internet before performing the reinstallation of the operating system.
After reinstalling the operating system
Uninstall the trial security software using windows add/remove programme.
Restart the computer.
Run the removal tool for the trial security software.
Restart the computer.
Install Norton
Connect to the internet.
You may need to activate it, run live updates as many times as it takes to get, no more live updates, restarting as requested.
If you have any questions please ask.
Have you backed up all of your personal data on to two separate external media?

Yes, I do use the Identity Safe vault and I wish to retain it. Can I use DVD/CD to back it up? And how do I back it up?
I appreciate the responses to my post.
Thank up both and Happy Hallloween

LocalVault, Online Vault, or Both?
Can I use DVD/CD to back it up?
Yes, or a USB Drive.
And how do I back it up?
Use the Export function of ID Safe and if you tell us which version of which Norton Product you are using we will provide instructions as to how to Export it.
I appreciate the responses to my post.
Thank up both and Happy Hallloween
You are quite welcome - now where are our treats? LOL
I'm using Ver 24.4.0.40
You get treats after sundown and if my porch light is on
OK, I’ll assume a typo and call it 20.4.0.40 - but which product? NIS, NAV, N 360??
Sorry. Norton Internet Security and your version is correct. (Senior moment)
OK boongsong, I'm doing this from memory, as I no longer have version 20.4.0.40 installed.
From the main page of NIS, select Settings > Web > Identity Safe > Log into your vault if you are not already logged in > You should see an Export option. Select it and follow the prompts - I would suggest it best to Export it to a USB drive twice - once in CSV format and once in DAT format as a precaution. Once Exported, you will have it available to Import once you set up restore and set up you new vault.
Hope this helps.
<edit>I know all about the senior moments I experience from time to time also!
You did not tell us whether it is a local or an online vault you are using. The process is different if you want the Local vault.
Also, let us know if you want to use the latest version, V21 or you want to stay with the version you currently use. We will give different download instructions for each option.
Thanks for the info. I'm assuming it is a local vault as I get an open prompt whenever I try to log on to a sit/page that requires logging-in. As for backing-up, I will have to get a USB. Never had a use for one before now.
As for the version, I wasn't aware there was a V21. I guess I'm guilty of the 3-syllable word "assume", as I thought I'd be prompted to download any updates/upgrades.
Anyway, I just installed V 21.1.0.18.
Thanks for all the help.
Thanks for your replies.
I'm using Ver 21.1.0.18 and, as far as I know, it is a local vault. I'm not familiar with the on-line version.
With the older version, I was prompted to open the vault when I go to a page requiring a log-in. However, since the newer version was installed, I have to open it manually.
I apologize for such a late response. I'm having serious problems with this compter loading web sites and links. I've been in constant email contact with the office just below the CEO's office on possible fixes, to no avail. Problems are with IE or Chrome.
That's why I'm getting ready to do a restoral in the hopes that will cure it's ails.
I'm not sure which my vault is - local or on-line. Also, I'm using V21.
As of now, 9:02 AM PST, 11/13, I'm in the final stages of backing-up all files to Carbonite.
I now have a SanDisk Ultra USB flash drive, 32GB, up to 15GB speed.
Because I didn't receive instructions on the exporting of my vault info to the flash drive, I will export in both CSV and DAT modes.
Thanks for your help.

If you have an online vault, you will have had to enter your Norton Account log in information, email and password, and then another password for the vault.
If you want a local vault when you reinstall your product, you will have to install the 2012 Version, create the local vault, import the logins. After you have done that, you will be able to upgrade to the latest V21 if you wish.
Your backing up the vault info in both formats is a good call for compatibility.
Thank you for your info. My vault has to be local as all I do is enter my password to open it. I exported to flash drive in both DAT and CSV formats.
Today is the big day. I will start the restoral this morning. Hope all goes well.
Again, thank you.
Good Luck boongsong!
Thanks. I need it. Much tripidation here.
Deep Breath...
Step one......
We'll see you back when you get to setp 27
Hello all. I'm back. The restoral is completed.
Now, I need to know what version of NIS to download. I have two accts but only one will automatically renew. That one has one download left. The other is for three computers and I have no downloads left on it.
How do I get NIS reinstalled?
