From within Norton 360, I used "Manage Backups" to delete a backup set. However, by error I didn't have Norton delete files as well.
Now I have a file set on drive that I can't use "Manage Backups" to access and I can't get windows to allow me to delete the whole folder (even though I have full administration rights). I suspect Norton still has some type of handle on the file set that doesn't allow windows to delete it. Any suggestions as to how to access and delete this folder?
I am surprised that you are unable to delete the files. Can you tell me exactly what it is that you tried to delete? E.g. folder names and structure and where it is?
Having deleted the old set through N360 did you set up a new backup set? If so was it called the same as the old set or has it a different name?
The folder I'm trying to delete is N360_BACKUP which is located in the root of an external drive. The new backup set in Norton has a completely different name and desination drive.
When going into Norton to restore files, it will still show the backup set I want to delete (this is what makes me think there is still an attachement to Norton).
If the N360_BACKUP folder is on a different drive from the current backup set then I cannot think why you cannot delete it.
My suggestions would be as follows:-
First - Close all N360 windows down, open Windows Explorer and navigate to the drive with the old backup, select the N360_BACKUP folder and hit delete. If the backup was of a reasonable size this may take some time. Allow it to run through and check that it has gone.
If that does not work:-
Open N360 select settings and uncheck the Backup check box. Then try the action above again. Then recheck the Backup option in N360.
Two last questions.
1- When you go into Backup in N360 and select Manage Backup sets how many backup sets are shown in the drop down menu next to "Backup Set Name"?
2- If the above suggestions fail, can you tell us if you can create and delete any files on the old backup drive?
