Hi Mo
My understanding, (someone can correct me).
127.0.0.0 is your default local network/ Router address . 255.0.0.0 is the Subnet mask. Then you will see an address for your default gateway.
With the Router being 127.0.0.0 if you have more than one connected then you will get computer 1 = 127.0.0.1, Computer 2 = 127.0.0.2 .........................................
You could get 2 sets of addresses if you have 2 adaptors connected, say one by cable or USB the other being a wireless adaptor.
bye

Go the Auckland warriors!!!should stir it up!
Hi Mo
Remember how you did "msconfig"?? Well this time go Start - Run and then type "cmd". the command prompt window appears.
Now type "ipconfig"
a list of Network adapters are listed, and the addresses.
I don't think anything is wrong, doesn't look like it.
Quads
Ok I will have a look,thanks again.

Hi Quads
Nothing showed up that was new to me.So I will take a chill pill and (it's a slang term to relax, not that I'm taking drugs)I will assume all is ok.

Hi All
I have just installed NIS2009,I was checking out the history/firewall and it said I was connected to 2 networks. One I recognize as my gateway the other is(127.0.0.0/255.0.0.0) subnet-protected network can someone explain what it is and why I have 2??I'm learning so please make it simple. Thanks

mo,
To try to clarify, the 127.0.0.0 network is a special network local to your computer. Applications can send traffic on this network if they know the communication does not need to go out on the "real" network to reach its destination; the other end of the communication is known to be on the same computer.
You can check out the Wikipedia entry on this for a little more information about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Localhost
In security history, you'll see an entry for each network your computer connects to, including the "localhost" or "loopback" network. These entries will be created as the networks are connected to (most commonly during system startup).

Mike
Thanks MikeO
It's starting to make sense!(slowly)
