I have been using norton 360 and safety minder. based on a message from norton, i upgraded to norton 360 ver 3. I had to reinstall add on's for n360 again. the addons created an incompatibility with safetyminder and I had to uninstall safetyminder.
I liked the features of safetyminder which are not really the same as the parental control in the add on. How can I reinstall safetyminder again?
I am using a 3 PC pack, use windows XP on all 3 machines.
Please note that Parental Control Add-On of N360 which is called AddOn Pack (AOP) is not compatible with Norton Safety Minder (NSM). You need to remove AOP and then install Safety Minder.
Also note that AOP can be removed using Windows "Add/Remove Programs" while keeping N360 on your machine. It will be listed as "Norton AddOn Pack"
Please see the following link for help with installing NSM.
In N360 Version 2, both AOP and NSM coexisted. Either was NOT a replacement for the other. The parental control aspects of AOP are enhanced in NSM. But AOP has other features that are not there in NSM. I think both should coexist.
Why was an incompatibility created in Version 3 if it was not there in version 2?
I'm the product manager for OnlineFamily.Norton. I apologize for the confusion about the compatibility between the Add-on Pack in N360 and OnlineFamily's Norton Safety Minder. Installation of the Safety Minder should have been blocked on N360 v2, but it looks like in your case, it wasn't.
Like Antivirus products, parental controls products have incompatibilities with each other - it's really not a good idea to use two on the same machine. For example, if two products try to block a site at the same time, they can conflict with each other can cause instability on the computer.
So, I recommend that you use only one parental controls product at a time. OnlineFamily.Norton is a super-set of the Add-On Pack's functionality: it has the ability to view kids' web browsing history, search terms, instant message & social networking activity, and time monitoring, in addition to the basic web filtering & confidential information blocking functionality in the Add-On Pack.
And since we're giving all early adopters a free, permanent subscription to OnlineFamily, it's a great time to use the product. After you have the Safety Minder installed, all you need to do is log into http://www.onlinefamily.norton.com to check kids browsing activity and view logs of blocked sites, search terms, etc.
