infected laptop just died on my shared family network

I just lost my laptop (running Kaspersky) to a virus or malware of some kind.  Because the infection killed every attempt to run intervention, I couldn't identify what was actually responsible.  By the time I saw the reports, the infection had too great a hold and any leads I had just generated a counterattack.  I even downloaded a Norton product and ran Malwarebytes - nothing was every "found" but it was obvious it was circumventing these and giving false information.

Now I'm checking my Norton on my desktop and questioning my security reports.  (I hadn't received notifications from Kaspersky, but reviewing the reports showed progressive attacks beginning the first week in July; now the laptop is dead.)  My firewall security section reads numerous detections of new network adapters with no action required over the last week.  These are different IP addresses and different product names, but two instances say they were shared and have no identifiers.

Everything that accesses the internet - besides my desktop - is through my home network setup.  How can I know I am protected?

Thanks for any help.
