I got some sort of virus that completely got passed NIS2009. First clue was pop-ups. The same five addresses were being loaded into the "allowed" list under pop-up settings (I.E. 7). The norton log captured an event that led me to find a .dll file in a shared folder under program files. I renamed the .dll and the pop-up list stopped being populated.
However, other activities are happening and being logged i.e. things are trying to connect to the internet without my help. I think that I could solve all ills if I could restore back to a date prior to troublesome events in the log. Eventhough the restore point calendar shows bolded dates for the last 3 months this virus has disabled my ability to fall back to a restore point. I even disabled the norton tamper setting as suggested (I got further doing this than with the tamper setting enabled) but to no avail.
Whatever this thing is norton can not detect it. Scans come back clean (except for that one cookie that always getts flagged and removed).
I'm really loosing confidence in norton. This infection comes 7 months after a crippling infection (running NIS2008) last december that forced me totally rebuild my system.
Request:
1. How do I get around this restore point issue
2. What do I have to do to keep from getting infected for crying out loud?
