Insight... not very bright...

Right, so, if Insight Protection is turned OFF, then why is Norton Insight running during idle time?  Recently, Insight is the *only* thing running during idle time (if the idle time task recorder actually does record which tasks run during idle time)--which suits me fine, except that Insight is supposed to be off.  And, if it is off, and nothing else is actually running during idle time, then why the snot are idle time tasks still running?  (For new visitors, I hate the idle time nonsense because it has caused my system problems in the past, and it is supremely, idiotically pointless that the idle time task manager can not simply be turned off.)  (For old commentators, NO, Norton does NOT need to run those tasks in order to do what it is supposed to do.)  The Community Watch task thing is even dumber:  it ran during idle time, only to find out that I'm not enrolled.  Um... why wouldn't the program tell the idle time task manager not to run the CW task in the first place?

It really makes me wonder if any of those on/off toggles, and any of the internal record keeping, can be at all trusted:  is the on/off switch broken, from being left off for too long?  Does the task recorder have any idea what it is actually recording?

[edit, sort of]  In the time it took me to write this, Norton idle time task recorder has decided that the temp files cleaners also ran during idle time.  Strange, as the idle time tasks were supposed to have stopped when I started posting this message.  So, if Insight actually is off (but runs during idle time, only to cancel itself...?), then the only purpose for this waste of resources is to clean out my temp folders.  I have CCleaner, which I use often enough for exactly that purpose.  My temp folders do not need to be squeaky clean--emptying them once a day is enough, really.  Norton people, if you still read my comments, please reconsider the pointlessness of forcing your users to accept your authoritarian doctrine.  Some of us do NOT want your program doing things when we're not around because, quite honestly, we don't trust you that much.  (And your claim that Norton idle time tasks stop "as soon as" the system is no longer idle... well, it's not entirely true.)

Cheers.
