Instability of computer

Hello everyone,

I have Norton Internet Security Suite 2012 (19.7.0.9) on Windows 7.

The computer became unstable to the extent I could not (and cannot)  use it satisfactorily.

I took the computer to a technician and two "viruses" were found.   These were in connection with a driver for a game controller and an add-on program for Flight Simulator X.   (I don't do the flying.   I'm the person trying to fix the problem!).   The technician used Malwarebytes and removed the offending program containing the driver and add-on program.   After the removal of the offending driver and add-on program, the computer is still unstable.   I have been persistent in trying to solve the problem but to no avail.

After the removal of the viruses, it seemed anything to do with "security" was dead.   I've managed to get Norton ISS going again when moments of stability prevailed.   Stability is intermittent.   At present time I can't get into programs, the Start menu, etc.   It is as though the computer is locked.

(1)  Do you think Norton ISS needs to be reinstalled?  Could this be causing the instability?  It seems to be working OK.   I thought maybe Malwarebytes could be in conflict with Norton ISS, but according to the forum it apparently is satisfactory, but I can't gain access to it anyway at present.

(2)  Take the computer back to the technician to solve the problem?

(3)  Do you think it is now a lost cause and I need to reinstall Vista/Upgrade Windows 7?  (Of course I know I'll lose all the beaut goodies on the computer).

(4)  Is there anything you could advise me on in your wisdom and experiences which I haven't thought about to rectify this frustrating problem?  In this case I have exhausted my computer fix-it knowledge.

Thanking you in anticipation.
