I re-read myg my origional post and noticed that I identified the missing file as 1992,1. That is an error. It was 1002,1.
Please try the instructions mentioned on this page

I just installed a Norton Antivirus 2008 with Antispyware.
I get this screen: Error: A necessary file could not be loaded (1992,1) after installing a Norton 2008 Program.
"Step 2. Download and run SymFix tool.
1. I cant find the tool.
2. My computer has much slower than before installing.
3.I cannot find a phone number or email to seek help from Norton.
Can anybody give me some advice?

What was your previous security set up?
bellamath wrote:I installed Norton Antivirus, but the Antivirus server doesn't recognize the installation, and says that I am currently at risk and do not have it installed. What can I do to resolve this? Do I need to reinstall it? I would love to do so, but I have another antivirus installation remaining, which I had hoped I could use on another computer. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
If you reinstall to the same computer, it should not use up another activation. If it does, you can come back here and we will guide you to getting it back.
Try clicking on Support - Subscription Status to see if your computer will synch with the Norton Servers.
Were there any error messages while installing?
Do you now or have you ever had another security program on your computer? If so, you will have to remove it with the removal tool for that program. This would interfere with your installation of NAV.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Norton Antivirus. There were no errors during the previous installation nor during the latest installation. I clicked on "check subscription", but I continuously have "0 days left". I've restarted the computer, as well. McAfee was present on my computer before, and I installed that before trying to uninstall/reinstall Norton on the computer. All attempts were unsuccessful....
Furthermore, on attempt to activate again, I received the message that the subscription had expired. I used the same product key to attempt to reactivate the product. While before I had 2 subscriptions remaining, I'm afraid I may have 0 subscriptions remaining because of this issue.
Check your system date and time to see that they are correct.
McAfee also has to be fully removed with the McAfee removal utility. You can find it on this page.
If you only removed it with Windows control panel or the uninstall feature of the main program, there can be remnants left behind that can conflict with Norton.
I didn't realize that clicking "uninstall" wasn't enough. It doesn't even show up in Control Panel. I'll try re-installing and update. Thanks for the help. Will update my status.
Hi again,
I've since run the McAfee remover and still cannot install Norton. My subscription is now expired, whereas I should have had 1 subscription left after the latest (attempt at) installation. Is there anything else I can do?
I've been looking more and more fondly at AVG... seems like it would cause less trouble.

You would have had 1 installation, not subscription.
If your subscription is expired, there are no activations left. If you are trying to use the last installation as a whole new install and subscription, that is not how it works.
The subscription time starts when the product key is first used. If you install again on another machine in 11 months, you will only have one month left on all computers protected by that subscription.
