I have read the posts on HP printer. I have an HP8500 Wireless A909g printer. I have tried installing the software on my Dell operating Windows Vista 2007 Microsoft. I have Norton 360. The software in the HP Solutions Center says that it cannot run because the installation is not complete. I can print to the printer, but the solutions center software does not operate.
I installed the same software on my windows xp machine and software installed and accessible.
Any suggestions as to how I can complete the installation. Thank you for the help.
Do you receive any message from your Norton product during the printer software installation?
I suggest you to disable Auto-Protect for a few minutes, and then try installing the software. Please make sure that you re-enable Auto-Protect after the printer software installation.
Instead of disabling and re-enabling Norton security program, try configuring your computer to Clean Boot mode and then install the printer. After installing the printer, you can boot back to normal mode.
Typically when you start your computer, it loads many files and programs to customize your environment. So, eventhough you disable the Norton components, the related processes and services will be running in the background. A clean boot eliminates these optional features and loads only those files and programs that are absolutely required by the operating system. A clean boot is a troubleshooting technique that allows you to get the computer up and running so that you can perform diagnostic tests to determine which elements of the normal boot process are causing problems. This operation starts the computer by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs.
Refer to this Symantec Support Article for instructions on configuring Windows Vista to Clean Boot.
I also have this prob trying to open solution center hp. I have an all in one printer , that isn't wireless a c4680. My printer prints fine, but the center won't open. I am still looking into mine. How long have you been having this? Mine is about a month old I run norton 360, but not sure if it has anything to do with it or not.
I think, the OP(jie) has entirely different problem - he/she is trying to install the printer and unable to do so. To check whether your problem is caused by Norton 360 or not, you can do the following:
- Disable AutoProtect and Smart Firewall for temporary purpose, and then check whether you can access/open HP Solution Center.
- Uninstall Norton 360(Custom uninstall through Add/Remove programs, save the settings as it is) and then check whether you can access/open HP Solution Center. You can reinstall Norton 360 back after checking this.
Mostly, if the problem happens even after you disable the AutoProtect/Firewall, it may not be caused by Norton 360. To reconfirm that from your end, I have suggested to try uninstall.
I would start heresince you don't mention which version of WIndows you are using -- note that there is a specifc link for those who have upgraded to Windows 7 and find it does not work.
