Just want to make sure I'm doing it right

Windows Vista Home OS with Vista 1 service pack currently using NAV2008

So would the following outline be the best process to use:

While connected to the internet

downlaod the Norton Removal tool

Then download NIS 2009

Disconnect from the internet

use removal tool to remove NAV2008

While still disconnected from the internet install NIS 2009

Reconnect to the internet and get NIIS 2009 updates

I would suggest the follwing

  • download v2009
  •  uninstall v2008 through add/ remove program
  • reboot
  • install v2009

NY1986,

Stu's advice is clear and accurate as usual.

However I would avoid the previous mention of CCleaner unless you are very familiar with that utility. I have not had to use it with any Norton installations.

See this post.

hi,

If you choose to remove via Add/Remove, I would maybe use the Norton Removal Tool to make sure LiveUpdate and all Files previous to N.I.S. are fully un-installed so that you do not run in to problems.

No need to use C.Cleaner as the N.R.T. should un-install all of the previous Norton Product; that is why N.R.T. is there.  :)

Phil_D and Stu, great recommendation. I couldn’t have said it better myself. I would advise against using the Norton Removal Tool unless you have a previously failed installation of a product. Thanks!

Thanx Tony, you instructed us well  ;)

Thank you fellas. So really the Norton Removal tool is only if there are problems uninstalling/installing. It shouldn't be used as a standard part of the process.

You all are great!!

100% right. After rebooting you might want to run CCleaner Registry issue cleaner also.
