Installing Internet Security 2012

I purchased Internet Security 2012 and began installation. After the reboot I received an error message that one of the devices had been disconnected and was instructed to reconnect the missing device (not identified) and rebooted again. I checked all of my connections and rebooted. Nothing happened. I downloaded the Norton Removal program, ran it, rebooted and attempted to start over but the pc wouldn't recognize the cd. I tried using other cds to eliminate the possibility that it was the cd drive but since the others worked it appears it only the install cd that my pc won't recognize. Any suggestions? Please keep it simple as I'm not a geek.

Hi DonaD:

When you already have NIS on your desktop, usually all you need to do is click renew and enter the key. Downloading again is not required.

Since the product is updated through your account, you may need to click support>check subscription status and it will synchronise to the server.

I can't believe that buying something is this much trouble. I bought Internet Security 2012 and Utilities online.

After much effort I have Utilities installed and activated!  But Internet Security is not. I have downloaded it (I think) and have a shortcut on my desktop for Norton Installation Files. I have the trial running on my computer. I have the Product Key and Serial Number. How do I install it?

Hi JJhall1169:

Welcome to the Norton Community Forums!

Did you install NIS 2012 as Administrator?

Could you please tell us what Operating System and Revision you are currently using?

Any other AV/FW software installed (or previously installed) on the computer in question?

We can go from there!

Thanks,

Did you have Norton 360 on this machine prior to trying to install NIS? There is a known situation there for which Microsoft has a FixIt that resolves it for many here.

Its an Acer Notebook and I'm running Windows Vista Home Edition. Since I'm the only user its not configured for multiple users. There are no other anti virus programs installed.

I previously ran Norton 360 on my pc but I picked up the Internet Security 2012 edition instead of the Norton 360 2012 edition by mistake.
