My wife has a Windows XP Media Center computer with SP 3 installed.. She uses NIS 2006. I have a Windows XP running SP 2 (not SP 3) and use NIS 2005. Rather than renew our subscriptions this time, we have purchased a three user disc copy of NIS 2011. I have read many different pieces of advice (sometimes conflicting) on the web on how to handle installation of NIS 2011 on our two computers. I would like to do the installation as simply as possible, yet have it be successful. So, should I just install NIS 2011 over the two previous versions of NIS? Or should I first remove NIS 2005 and NIS 2006 by using the Control Panel's Add/Delete programs function? Or should I use the Norton Removal Tool?
Additionally, we are both running Spysweeper. Should we uninstall this program before installing NIS 2011? Is it important to have the old Product Keys for NIS 2005 and NIS 2006 available in activating NIS 2011 with it's new Product Key? I find the whole Product Key thing more complicated than it needs to be. Finally, do I need to install SP 3 on my computer before installing NIS 2011? I do plan to get around to it eventually (if only people would stop writing bad things about it on bulletin boards).
My general experience in renewing previous Norton subscriptions has been that there always seems to be some problem every year. Despite this, I do like their product. I just wish that their support web site was a little more user friendly and that installation issues such as mine would be addressed with each new release of NIS. Would it be that difficult to place more specific instrucations on their web site that handled the many possibilities? Certainly seems like it would save their support time, while also saving aggrevation and customers Thanks, in advance, for help/advice.
