My father-in-law has just bought a new Dell PC, pre-installed with McAfee. I've helped him setup the new PC for internet, email, etc. As an existing Norton customer he wanted McAfee removed and NIS 2012 installed.
I uninstalled McAfee following it's uninstall instructions, including a reboot half way through to complete the uninstall. I then rebooted the PC and started the NIS 2012 installation. Part way through this it did an online update, then stated it was deleting files (I thought this was strange, but assumed it was deleting older Norton files and loading updated ones). The installation then asks for a reboot, but once rebooted all the program files were gone - it's deleted everything, including Internet Explorer so you can't even get on line for help.
Is there any way back from this? This was a brand new £1200 PC straight out of the box - and to my parents-in-law it looks like I wrecked it.
