Instant Lock not working on Child's Android Phone

If I set Instant Lock via the Norton Family app on my Android phone, it does not lock my child's phone unless they go in and refresh their house rules (which of course they are never going to do). I've seen many many posts about the same thing, but no solutions...

I've tried both methods described in the help article that you pointed to. The Settings app is not listed in the House Rules section, therefore, it cannot be disabled. The Settings app is listed in the Activities section, however, there is no way to disable the app from this section.

Hi,

Please use the Norton Family portal or Parent app to disable the Settings app as mentioned in this help article.

Thanks,

Norton Family Team

Thank you for the reply!

I have enabled the 'Draw Over Other Apps' setting as I disabled this when I couldn't get the app to remove the 'This device is locked' screen after turning off Instant Lock. Additionally, I did want to let you know Instant Lock DOES appear to be working properly at the moment. I'll report back if this changes in the future.

In regard to blocking the settings app, this isn't possible as there is no option to block the settings app in the child device app list in the Norton Family House Rules. If there is another way to block this app, please let me know how.

Hi,

Thanks for reaching out to Norton Family Forum.

Our analysis has revealed that the "Draw Over Other Apps" Permission has been tampered with in your child's device. Kindly ensure that the permission is enabled again and all other necessary permissions are in place, thus allowing our app to function smoothly. Feel free to refer to this help document for assistance in this regard.

We would also recommend blocking the Settings App under App Supervision to prevent the child from tampering with the permissions.

Norton Family Team.

Same issue here. Just signed up for an account (thankfully I have 30 days free to evaluate, not looking good for Norton at this point), setup the apps on my sons Pixel 6a and on my Galaxy S24 Ultra, permissions were setup as Norton directs on the child device, however, the device will not lock/unlock unless it is restarted. Seems there are a ton of issues mentioned in these forums and in the Google Play store reviews with the same issue and the same comments; "we are looking into it", from Norton. If it isn't fixed in the next day or two, I'll be cancelling my subscription and trying another company.

All the permissions are set correctly. The app is working correctly, but only after my child refreshes their app.

Hi @essexboy19,

Welcome to Norton Family forum.

We are investigating this issue. Could you please check if all permissions are setup for the device? Please follow this help link for the same.

Also, have sent you a private message for more details to help troubleshoot further. Please check.

Thanks,
Norton Family team
