I have been researching quite a bit to find out whether it is better or necessary to have an internet connection while performing a (full) computer scan. I have however not been able to find an answer. I usually run a full scan once every week during the night. My router switches off the wireless network during the night, so Norton Internet Security performs its full scan without internet connection. I have read about SONAR, but that is only real time scanning from what I understand. In the manual it is stated that a computer scan uses local definitions, which would mean it is not necessary to be connected to the internet. In another place (I do no have the link anymore) I read that Norton quite frequently checks online for the safety of files, and one of the reasons for doing so is that a local definition file containing all current threads would be so big, that Norton has to access an online database.
I am hoping someone can shed some light on this.
Thanks in advance!
