"Internet Explorer" Error

While Installing Adobe Reader 9.1, I got this Error Message (below).  I waited until the Install had Completed - the Installation windows just dis-appeared - and then I Dis-Connected and Clicked "Close".  All the Windows Internet Explorer windows Closed.  Is this Real, or a Fake pop-up?

01. Adobe Reader Opened as it was required.  Updates Started Automatically.

 

02. No; I am going to do one shortly, un-less you suggest otherwise.

And I should also mention that, ever since the opop-up came up and the Install windows dis-appeared, my computer is lagging heavily, and I do not have that many Tabs / Windows Open.  I should also mention that the Installation windows Closed a few seconds after the I.E. pop-up came up, and that I did get Infected by a Mis-Leading Application last week, and, just yesterday, Norton still Found some of it on my system.  A huge thank-you to Malwarebytes who saved my neck last week!

I'd try a restart and see how things are working.

 

My Adobe Reader is part of an Adobe suite that updates differently than the standalone reader, so can you tell me if there is an option in your Adobe Reader for Automatic Updates?

From the details you provided, I would say this was normal.  Adobe Reader loads some BHOs into IE so that is probably what caused the closing of the IE windows (however, they could have done it more gracefully).  If your scans are coming up clean (you may want to do a Full System Scan with Norton) then you are good to go.:smileytongue:

It certainly is legit and a quite annoying error. It happens most of the time due to errors in BHO's. Microsoft has several articles referring to "Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.". You might wan't to do a hijackthis scan and look it through for any BHO's that you do not need. I would recommend you to uninstall adobe reader and get the newest version from http://get.adobe.com/reader/.

 

After install, you should  update it by opening Adobe Reader -> Help -> Control for updates (or something :p). That way you are making sure that you got the newest version off the website and that you are 100% up2date.

I am having Threat Issues at the moment, so just needed confirmation - and plus the fact I Rarely see this pop-up.

 

 

And Salihb: I do have the Latest Version - March 2009 - as I was Installing the Patch for the Recent Adobe Vulnerability which automatically Upgrades you to Version 9 and then 9.1, if you are currently-using Version 8 and for Users who can Upgrade when that pop-up came up.  ;)

I would actually have said it was fake because it doesn’t look like the dialoge box I always get.  There is always an option to view what data the report contains on the one’s I get, plus an option to either send the report, or not send it.  It doesn’t look good to me…

I just Downloaded the new 9.1 update and no IE7 problems or Pop up box.41mb for what it's worth.

Good point McStick I will be paying closer attention to any Microsoft pop ups in future.Thanks.

Yeah, and that's why I thought it was Fake.  If the pop-up came up and, when I Clicked on "Close", did not not Close the Open I.E. windows, then I would have no doubt in my mind that it would be Fake.

 

mo: What O.S. are you using and with which S.P.?  And what Version of I.E. are you using and how many I.E. windows were Open?

There are good points being brought up about the validity of this error message, however I have seen it on rare occasions.

 

It could be that your system froze and did not have time to build a report, and with a frozen system, the close button may not have functioned.

 

That is why I had suggested that you check your event viewer. It may hold the answer.

@ Phil good point I always check my event veiwer after a download or If I remove a program.

 

@ Red I used IE7, XPhome SP3,As for windows being opened it would be about 3 I think . I went through the Adobe 9 information panel in the add/remove section??
