internet problem after manual removal of trojan.zeroaccess!inf

Hoping you can help me. My Windows Vista laptop had gotten slower and slower with constant warnings of 'High CPU usage by: TCP/IP Ping Command'. I ran every scan I could find and this past Sunday I had a warning for the above virus. I followed the instructions and did the manual removal. It seems to have worked, no warnings since and it's much faster.

However I now don't have internet access anymore, wired or wireless. In the network/sharing center it says it is connected to my router with excellent strength, but it never finishes identifying it and classifies it as a public network. None of the solutions I found on the web worked.

Is there some setting that gets changed with the removal tool that I need to restore?

Thanks in advance for any help!
