I confirm that 2.9.5.9 did not cure the problem. I have a Windows 8.0 PC running an older version still with no problems but if I load 2.9.5.9 the problem comes back.
Just upgraded one of the other laptops running Windows 8.1, unable to load the older version but the problems are still there using 2.9.5.9
I have another Windows 8.1 PC(my one, kids dont touch it!) without Norton installed and works great. All three laptops are identical specs and models (hardware wise).
I have been trying other parental control software but nothing touches Norton Family - please fix the problem.
I'll be glad to setup a remote session with you if you are interested in having one with me and able to recreate the issue consistently (you would be able to show me the issue during the session).
Is there any update for this issue? I'm having to kill nf*.exe by default now to use the interent effectively on my unmonitored account? The monitored accounts seem ok (at least the kids haven't complained), although I do get many of the 'browser plugin disabled' messages when they are using their accounts.
Well I'm afraid that I have had to come to the decision to unistall Norton Family.
It's been over a month now and if I'm not spending half my time killing nf*.exe prcesses to make my admin/unmonitored account work and having to reboot whenever the kids want to use the PC then I'm being bombarded with 'browser plugin disabled' messages when the kids are using the machine.
It's a shame because this product did used to work for me and it was a good product and I'm not sure there's necessarily a better alternative.
I'll just have to figure out some better way to protect my kids.
I know it's not your fault Katie an you try hard, but I've had enough. I'll check back on the forum from time to time to see whether this has been resolved.
Mike
P.S. I had to kill a re-spawned nf*.exe process in order to post this reply as my browser hung!
openDNS is one alternative; it's not for fainthearted non-tiinkerer though, and might not meet all your needs.
PC Pro Issue 229, Nov 2013 issue had a good round-up of "Web Filtering" options, sadly Norton Family came out top, I was so disappointed when I came to use it.
Thanks for your patience. I apologize for any inconveniences caused. The team has been working on the issue. I'll keep you posted when I get any updates.
