Internet Security 2006 - Activation/Subscription Problem

Did you try to use the Norton Removal Tool

and even upgrade to 2008 version. Your license will cover it

If you have already done this and they could not resolve your issue, please let us know. If this is the case, please provide as many details as possible. I would advise you to only use the Norton Removal Tool as a last resort; it should not be a ā€œfirst stepā€ in solving an unknown problem. Thanks!

I have the same problem.  I had NIS 2006 installed. I got tired of the ā€˜pesteringā€™ messages from Symantec to ā€˜upgradeā€™ my product to the 2008 version.  I waited until I was within 30 days of my subscription running out and then took the plunge and upgraded via the upgrade link.  While the product did in fact upgrade to 2008, it took away my remaining 30 days of PAID SUBSCRIPTION and replaced it with a 15 day TRIAL version.  Humph.  So I let the subscription run out and then uninstalled the 2008 version as I have a 3PC license for the older 2006 version that I want to install on the machine.  I installed the 2006 version and it would not activate.  The 2007 version (I have one of those too) would not install at all!  As I have pcAnywhere 11.0, Ghost 9.0 and SystemWorks 2006 also loaded onto this computer, I really scuffed at the idea of having to uninstall ALL of my Symantec / Norton products.  Maybe the universe is trying to tell me something.  Hmmmm.  I did uninstall all my products.  I downloaded and ran the NRT to remove all traces of Norton products from my computer.  So now I should have a ā€˜clean slateā€™, right?  Not so fast.  I installed my NIS 2006 and activated the product.  It came back with the CORRECT 324 days remaining on my subscription.  Joy.  So, I then proceeded to install my NSW 2006, unchecking the antivirus module so that it would not overwrite my NIS 2006 antivirus module.  So far so good.  No activation is required by NSW 2006 if you donā€™t install the antivirus, so again, so far so good.  Continuing, I installed my pcAnywhere 11.0.  I did not install my Ghost 9.0 as of yet.  At this point everything seemed to be working just fine.  4 hours later I returned to the computer to see that my product had been DISABLED because I failed to activate it!  Thank you Symantec.  I re-activated the NIS 2006 and although the product claims that it successfully activated, I am left with -1 days remaining.  Needless to say Iā€™m NOT HAPPY!!!  I ran the KB Fix tool with no change in the status of the problem.  I have screenshots into the support desk asking for help.  The 2006 products should still activate as I have 4 other computers all with 2006 product versions on them and they are running fine.  I think.  Perhaps I should go check.   Hmmmmm. Anyway, looking for help and an aspirin.  Someone at Symantec needs to get a handle on this issue FAST.  All of this started with the upgrade to the 2008 version.  Regards, ~DB.

Did you ever get this solved?  I am having the same issue.  Strangely enough when I try to use the Chat function it never loads for me, so I am out here on my own on this. 

 

The Norton Support pages keep saying to update the subscription that I should go to Help and Support and select Subscriptions, but I don't have that option.  Now what??

 

Anyone out there seen this before?

Why not contact Support via the symantec Web Site?  Have you already tried this?

Well, after trying to uninstall, reinstall, activate and reactivate three times in succession without success, I finally fixed the problem -  cancelled the subscription and went with McAfee.

 

Even though $89 or whatever it cost is not going to break me, nor indeed Symantec, when I pay for something, I expect it to work. Period! Clearly it didn't so I went for something else.

Danger, Will Robinson!  After unsuccessfully trying to install the NIS 2008 upgrade that was made available with my renewed subscription (it "ran" for over 12 hours in the install mode: I'm not a techie so I delayed as long as possible before I shut down the machine.  I tried downloading and installing again.  Nothing worked.)  The next day I loaded a licenced copy of McAfee Total Protection, which loaded and updated and scanned the computer without incident). I subsequently called and asked to have my NIS subscription refunded.  This was accomplished without the slightest hesitation (kudos to Symantec).  However, when I subsequently downloaded and used the Removal Tool to take away the NIS 2006 files, etc. that the unsuccessful upgrade had left on my computer, total disaster struck.  I followed the prompts and rebooted when the Tool said to do so.  When the computer restarted, I got a popup that said something like "Windows does not recognize this file" (it was a .lnk file in the Startup routine) and I was given the option of going to the Web for a search to find the program that it belonged to, or to browse for the program.  The file at issue was the startup link to Quicken 2003.  I searched and found the qw.exe file and clicked to associate it with the link.  The result was that each and every file in my directory thereafter opened Quicken 2003 if I clicked on it. This despite the fact that when I checked the "properties" for the file it appeared to be correct and in no way associated with Quicken   Moreover, since the computer start program had not run, I had no internet connection available.  I opened Control Panel to activate a connection from there.  The Internet Connection file was gone.  Not there.  And there was no connection wizard to create a new connection.  I'll let the powers that be decide why I got the result I got; I tell this tale of woe only as a piece of cautionary advice.  By the way, I have used the system recover CD that came with the computer and I have it up and running again.  This means, of course, that Windows (XP Home Edition 2002) and MS Office Professional 2002 and all the other programs have to be reinstalled (or activated) and have to be updated, which is what I'm doing as I write this on my other computer. May you have better luck than I with the Norton Removal Tool.
