I have been troubleshooting a seemingly problem on my son's computer for several months having to do with the installation and operation of VMware Workstation.
Norton Internet Security 2009 has been on the machine. The system has been scanned many times, I've deleted anything that looked suspiciuos.
Over the weekend I noticed that a program beiefly activated each time the VMWare installation was invoked... fixcamera.exe.
We searched the Internet and found the following item posted to this forum in 2008.

I too found that searching Symantec.com returns no result.
What's up with that ?
hmmm.
<rant>
Your underlying assumption is that I really want to be the part time administrator for the PC that my son uses at college 3 hours away from home, or waste time rediscovering a known problem.
My view is that I paid good money for a product that is supposed to find basic stuff that has been identified over a year a go, with a subscription to Internet Security 2009 that is less than 30 days old (I bought it at the local Staples store).
It would seem that it is in Symantec / Norton's best interest to ensure that all it's current customers have a "good product experience".... not just collect yearly dues in return for a periodic ineffective scan; live update and a randomly required restart.
Sounds like a Dilbert cartoon to me.

from-left-field:
Please be aware that malware writers make a living re-designing and updating their malware at least as often as the antimalware. The infection is unlikely to be the same as it was in past versions. That is what makes updating the antivirus products so important.
That is why Norton provides the latest version, 2010, free of charge to those with a current subscription for older versions of their product. The 2010 version is also much more likely to prevent theinstallation of of things that your son has determinedly clicked on.
And your underlying assumption that that is my underlying assumption is as skewed as your logic.
If you'd like some help don't hesitate to ask for it.
And BTW << with a subscription to Internet Security 2009 that is less than 30 days old (I bought it at the local Staples store).>> Since NIS 2010 came out in September 2009 that 2009 version should not still be on sale so you may care to raise that with your local Staples store manager. If you get him to replace the 2009 CD with a 2010 CD you then have also the Norton Recovery Utilitiy that is on the CD although it can be downloaded.
