Thanks a lot for quick answer, however.... I cannot find the settings you mention in NIS2009!
Under Settings--> Computer Scan I find only
Compressed files scan ON and the following two lines are indented:
Remove infected files automatically OFF
which seems to refer ONLY to compressed files.
Cannot find Advanced settings either for Firewall.
I find:
Smart Firewall --> Program Control -->Configure
which lists a set of progs detected, but not all and no way to find them as in previous NIS.
Where am I wrong?
Thanks again.
Its all right in front of you. Click advanced under Smart firewall. The anti virus settings are on top. When you click on settings next to Computer or Internet it brings up everything you need in different tabs.
You were right... it was in front of me....
I could find Smart Firewall --> Advanced settings
Now that's fixed.
However cannot find:
"automatically clean infected files"
Probably I need new glasses.
Thanks again.
Wanna borrow my contacts. When you open up the settings it gives you several layers and tabs. Top tab is computer settings. Second tab is internet settings. Third tab is browser portection. Forth tab is email scan. And so on.

yes, please....
I opened up all tabs, read everything.... but still cannot see
"automatically clean infected files"
but if you say that it is off by default, I trust you....
Few neurons left....
Thanks.
Dieselman,
I think I'd be afraid to use your contacts -- they seem to be showing you something that's not there.
Do you want to post a screenshot? I have been up and down my screens and scrolled everywhere, but I can find no option for removing or not removing infected files automatically (nor for quarantining them) except under the Compressed Files heading.
Seriously -- for everybody -- I've noticed that when someone wants to find something, they get told that it's there, but aren't really told how to get to "there". That sounds more like scolding than helping. Screenshots take time, but they are helpful. Otherwise, specific step-by-step helps; although in this particular case, I can't find a quarantine-vs-delete option anywhere in the scanning choices.
mijcar,
I concur. I only see the option under Compressed Files Scan. And if you try to change that setting to "ON", a warning pops up about how your compressed files can be adversely affected.
That was a good reminder to everyone to post a screenshot or give step by step instructions. It is the best way to help.
Thanks.
Thanks....
I thought I was stupid....
I also went through the help guide, and
"automatically clean infected files"
is nowhere.
So, let's wait for screenshots.
Hi AstroMax,
As far as setting anti-virus detections to quarantine but not delete, this is not an available option. Most users are not advanced users, and we are concerned with them leaving malicious files on their system.
For low risk items you can choose Ask Me and you will be prompted to decide what to do with detected items.
For medium/high risk items that were automatically removed (or low risk items you chose to remove), you can restore these from Quarantine if you decide it is a false detection. For risks that are not exclusively malware, when you restore, you can exclude them from future scans.
For the "Remove Infected Files Automatically" option, this is only for compressed files, as you thought.
Regards,
Lisa
Hi Lisa,
Thanks for confirming that and the screenshots were great!
I am sorry I missed that part about compressed files.
Hi Lisa, thanks a lot.
That clarifies my problem.
Indeed I think that's the right approach for anti-virus detection.
Hello, I am new here....
I just installed NIS 2009, which I think is a great improvement.
I have a couple of questions on settings, thanks for any help.
1) in previous NIS versions it was possible to ask NIS to scan computer for programs so that I could then create custom access for each program. I cannot find this feature any more.
2) antivirus: is there the possibility to set it so that when it scans, bad files are only quarantined and not deleted? Just in case I decide it is a false detection.
Thanks for help and to Symantec for this great upgrade.
AstroMax
No need for this its already done. If you simply click into your settings you will fined that “automatically clean infected files” is off by default. As far as your programs with Automatic program on all programs are automatically learned. That setting is under Advanced. But keep in mind under that settings all programs will be trusted and allowed to connect including malware. So this option should be off.
