In the last few days I have had two Intrusion Attempts blocked. The first time, I contacted Norton Chat and they looked at my machine via remote connection, ran a few scans and said all was fine. I have not contacted them about this one because in both cases my Security History indicated that the attack was blocked.
The question is... Why in both cases does it indicate that MY COMPUTER is the one doing the atttacking? Can it attack itself? Or am I infected?
The message goes on to say: "The attack was resulted from \DEVICE\HARDDISKVOLUME3\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\INTERNET EXPLORER\IEXPLORE.EXE".
Thanks in advance to all who offer help with this!
Hello SlowGuy,
Indeed, the wording in that message can be alarming.
Apparently an intrusion attempt was made via Internet Explorer and the file was attempting to write to your hard drive.
However, since the attack was blocked, you are secure.
Thank you Phil_D,
It was very disconcerting... Especially since the messages seems to indicate that my computer was the one doing the attack!
Thanks for your help!
SlowGuy
This may just be the result of hitting a bad web page with a threat on it. Norton will show that a threat, usually a specific name, was blocked resulting from Internet Explorer or Firefox, because that was where the threat attempted to penetrate. It does not mean that the threat was actually on your machine.
It would be more usefull to see what the rest of the notification in history said.
