Hi Guys
It’s probably me just over reacting and looking Into the logs too much but is it normal for when I turn on my computer and log on and go to my history for it to say Intrusion Prevention Engine version: 6.0.0.265 Definitions Set version: 20140221.001 (these numbers change time to time I’m guessing because of the version?) and then after that the next log in the history I get is Intrusion prevention enabled. Is this Normal from Norton? Sorry if this to you guys is a stupid question but I’m just curious!
Thanks a lot in advance!
Hello Apostoles
Thank you for the quick response I thought that the live update had a role in this! I’ve just got one more question about this (sorry) for example I turned my computer off and back on and it still came up with the same definitions log and when I ran live update I didn’t get a IPS update. Is this because it’s using the definition that’s already installed?
Thanks a lot for the help!

Hi,
IPS engine uses the latest database provided by LiveUpdate.
If it's current and there is nothing new, then the logs will show the latest update and also the driver number which could also be updated in a future update.
Does it address your concerns?

Hi,
You can also take a look here each day to see the latest threats and see if you are protected or not yet.

Hi
Yes I think that is all thank you for the information and setting my mind at rest. I will continue to use my computer as normal.
Thanks a lot!
...And here http://www.symantec.com/security_response/securityupdates/list.jsp?fid=nis&pvid=nis2012
you can check if the latest IPS version is installed in your Norton product.
Hi Rainbow_2
In addition to your link how comes that the top IPS version on the link you posted is different to the one which I listed at the top of this thread? And in the link it hasn’t got the IPS update I have?
Thanks a lot
What Norton product are you running?
Edit: probably N360 since you are posting on this board?
Hello
Yes I am running Norton 360
OK, please go to the page I linked to above (which now displays IPS versions for NIS), and as shown in the screenshot below, in the drop-down list click on Norton 360, and in the next page you will see that the latest IPS version is the one you have, i.e.:
2/21/14 | Security Update 1052 | 20140221.001 |
Hi Rainbow_2
I feel quite silly for completely missing that drop down menu! But thanks for clearing this up for me I was starting to worry for a second! I’ll continue to use my computer as normal!
Thanks a lot for the help!
You are welcome!
Sorry to me more of a pain but I’m just wondering my live update yesterday (21/02/14) shows it downloaded a IPS update which is the one listed above but how comes today (22/02/14) when I ran my live update I got another IPS update but it’s the same one as listed above?
Thanks a lot and this is my last question! (sorry)

Probably the IPS Defs version hasn't changed since yesterday, so today it just confirmed yesterday's version.
Hi Rainbow_2
Thank you very much! And sorry for being such a hassle thanks for clearing this up
Take care!
Again, you are welcome! You are right to ask about what is new to you
