So i turn my computer on this morning, and see that norton is spazzing because it hasn't updated in 9 hours, so i run an update. It also says it needs to be fixed (what?) and it runs a fix program, and updates. But after the fixing program, it says that intrusion protection and browser protection are off. I go turn them on manually, and they turn off again. Do i have a virus, or is norton just being moody?
Hello yawtyler
Welcome to the Norton Community
Can you please tell us what Norton product you are using including the version number? Also what operating system and service pack please? Please also check to see if you are having any problems with the system clock and if there are any errors having to do with time. Thanks.

HI yawtyler
Welcome to the Norton Community Forums
Could you go to the Help & Support Menu in NIS and click on Get Support to run Auto-fix to diagnose and fix any issues it finds.
Thanks

Like i said, Norton Internet Security 2010, Windows 7, the latest service pack. (have they came out with one yet?)
No, no clock problems. I am on chat with norton now, maybe they can help me too.
Yup, I ran the auto fix, it tells me to run the Norton removal tool. I'd like to, but when I ordered Norton, I ordered a download, so I don't have a install disc for it. I've already had to re-install Norton on this computer before, when I got a new hard drive, and that was a hassle. Trying to talk to the people in chat.
I have also added a screen shot of what happens with the Fix Now program. It says intrusion prevention is off. When I turn it back on, it turns itself off again. I have run a complete scan, and all it found was tracking cookies.
Hi yawtyler,
Since you were told by AutoFix to reinstall NIS 2010, please do the following if NIS is the only Norton product on your computer.
Note: the removal tool will wipe out your settings and any other Norton products installed on your computer. It will not touch your product key, however, and your newly installed Norton product should pick up your key automatically.
-first, back up your Identity Safe data beforehand if you use Identity Safe:

-download the removal tool from here and save it to your desktop:
http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&ssfromlink=true&sprt_cid=1a13409b-29db-4397-a286-9dec49f8e252&seg=hho&ct=us&lg=en&docurl=20080828154508EN
-download the full NIS 2010 installation package from here and save it to your desktop:
http://www.norton.com/nis10
-make sure you have got your product key handy (you can get it from your Norton account) just to be on the safe side.
-deactivate any other security software you may have, such as Windows Defender. However, please leave Norton running. As a side note: running two real-time security programs on one machine is not recommended.
-if you wish, you can create a system restore point
-disconnect physically from the internet (remove the internet cable) that way your computer is not exposed.
-if you are in Vista: right-click on the removal tool icon, run as administrator; run the removal tool 2-3 times, rebooting each time after every run
-after running the removal tool: if in Vista: right-click NIS 2010 icon, run as administrator, let it install itself. When it wants to connect with the web, connect again to the internet.
Please post back with the results. Thanks :-)
Hello yawtyler
Here is a link for the Norton Removal Tool which will remove all Norton products
You can download the Norton Removal tool from
http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080710133834EN
Please pick the proper Norton product that you want to remove. Also please be aware that it will remove all Norton products, so back up Identity Safe using the program to back that up. Also please have your product key handy.
Thank you Allen for new link

Please remember to run live update after install to make sure all updates are received and then please reboot.

HI yawtyler
Please follow Yaso_Kuuhl's detailed instructions to remove and reinstall your product and, as floplot has indicated, make sure you run liveupdate repeatedly after the installation until you get a message that there are no more updates. Some updates may require you to reboot after they install.
Thanks
