On Jan 16 I jgot hit by three alerts saying a MSIE Fake Antivirus Scan Web page was attempting to intrude onto my computer. On the first occasion it managed to enter my internet web session and prompt a menu bar masquerading as my own microsoft security system. Attempting to cancel or close the menu bar only started a download process. I manually disconnected the internet and ran a norton scan. During the scan it picked up no virus, trojans, or malware. However, during the scan my computer attempted to open up approximately 67 internet web browsers but thankfully was unable to connect. Since then I noticed that I have a wizlink.exe file and a new ebay icon on my start menu but found no other unusual files. Additionally, the day after the attack, my computer once again attempted to open dozens of web browsers whilst I was on the internet. My next step is to search the registery.
In the meantime, I also conducted a web search on the various sites which originated this MSIE. According to Google and another information security team, the sites have originated malware in the past but not in the last 90 days until the day my computer suffered its attack. Their reviews are found here http://safebrowsing.clients.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=antivirscheckt7.com and http://www.malwareurl.com/listing.php?domain=antivirscheckt7.com. This looks serious and I am extremely suspicious that some form of trojan, virus, or malware has infected my computer. Norton seemed unable to stop the Winzip file from being dowloaded and I am concerned it is only the tip of the iceberg. Please let me know how I may find the problem and remove it.
Thank You,
Mishel
