Invalid .v2i files SSR 2013

Brian, Dave,

Here are a series of pics showing the Invalid drives from 09/05/13, 11/05/13,and 23/05/13.

Then there are 3 pics showing valid drives on 15/06/13. I will post the 4 sets individually.

Brian,

there are no invalid target drives in June because 15/06/13 was the first backup since creating the 6 O/Ss again as explained in message 1.

Like I said before from now on (15/06/13) the backups I make will all be valid until I get a problem and it is then that for some reason the Win 8 backups become Invalid.

You both know my system of backing up eg. I highlight ALL 6 partitions and then run "One Time Backup" that puts them all under one date.

When I restore from the date selected ALL partitions are ticked automatically for recovery and I hit the button and ALL are restored in order.

The last pic I will post will be the view of "Computer" from Win7(2) (which I work with most of the time) with all 6 drives in alphabetical order.

SSR and Win8 shifts the letters around that is why you see them in a different order.

These are a set of pics dated 09/05/13 and are invalid, I can't resize the SSR screen that is why there are a couple of shots to show the two Win8s Invalid.

Can you post a partinfo?

Brian,

Here is the partinfo file you wanted, my memory has re-enabled.

Brian,Dave,

I have just tried a recovery using the Invalid files on 09/05/13, 11/05/13 and 23/05/13 and I can't use any of the 3 sets even individual files to recover.

I get the error messages - EC950019 current recovery point data is invalid and EOBC002 on the Win8(2) file.

The one selected is XP see pic.

The only backup I can use is the latest backup where all are valid 15/06/13.

Edit:  I am going to try a full recovery now using the set dated 15/06/13.

Brian, Dave,

The recovery worked perfect (15/06/13) and might I add, so did sets 09/05/13 and 11/05/13 according to my notes, until they both went Invalid.

After that I noticed that set 23/05/13 went invalid.

So, to me it is a mystery as to what is happening I just can't put my finger on it, I have checked the Edit on the SSR screen and I can't see a problem.

Dave, Brian, have you spotted anything untoward with my setup?

Deric,

If you use the Ghost 12 CD with those "bad" recovery points, can you restore the partitions. Either all together or individually?

Deric,

As you know, partitions on a SSD should be 2048 sector aligned for optimal performance. Your C: D: E: F: aren't 2048 sector aligned. (based on your partinfo)

I will give it a try tomorrow and see what happens.

Brian,

I don't know how that happens, I started from scratch and deleted the drive creating all unallocated space.

Then to save me a lot of time I "cloned" the first 4 partitions XP, Vista, Win7 (1) and Win7 (2) using a Ghost 12 backup dated 08/05/13.

Then I split the remaining unallocated space on the SSD in half (44.7GB) and formatted the partitions then installed the 2 Win8s.

I will need close supervision to rectify the alignment I am afraid because that is new science to me.

Brian,

I used the recovery point dated 23/05/13 and could only recover the 4 O/Ss XP, Vista and the 2 Win7s and I did them altogether like I normally do.  see pic.

When I look at the recovery screen there are only 4 ticked for recovery the two Win8s are invalid and unusable, although they were verified the other day.

Bear in mind we are recovering with Ghost 12 that is why you can't actually see the two Win 8s listed, just C;and E: that is SSR swapping the drive letters around.

So I think as we are in the recovery environment we are actually talking about invalid files and not invalid target drive.

The recovery went well and completed in 17 minutes but when I booted into Win8(2) the system was diagnosing a repair, repaired it and then both Win8s booted ok.

I am now going to back this up again with SSR 2013 and it should result in a valid recovery set.

Edit:

I think end of story now , until I mess things up again and I can guarantee the recovery points will go Invalid.

Deric,

It's not the recovery points!

Can you try to restore the Win8 partitions manually when you have an Invalid Drive? Let us know if Ghost has picked the wrong target drive.

Edit.... Do you have Win8 Fast Start enabled? A hibernated Win8 partition may be preventing Ghost from accessing it.

Brian,

In message 34, if the pic has been approved, you can see that the files/drives are invalid and I can't use them.

But just for you I will try again and post the error message in the next post so leave it with me, I will try it before I hit the sack.

I never use hibernation.

Deric

But have you manually disabled Fast Start?

Have you removed hiberfil.sys?

Edit... Can you boot the Win8 partitions now?

When you have the Invalid Drive message, can you boot Win8?

Brian,

No, I haven't I didn't know about hiberfil.sys.

I can boot into both Win 8s I just can't recover them, see message 34. see error pics.

I will post the pics individually so we don't get confused.

I have just tried SSR manual recovery and got the error and lost a Win8 off the list

I also tried a manual recovery of both Win8s with Ghost 12 and I can't recover them

You will have to wait for the pics to be approved and you will see what I mean.

Whatever I try I just can't recover the invalid "lines".
