A Dutch friend has a 2006 Dutch Anti Virus for 2 computers, never used.
I live in UK.
He says I can download the latest NAV version and then use the old Dutch code to activate it.
I said he was wrong because the licence would only be valid in country of origin and also that it was too old.
Can anyone confirm who is right?
Hello happy0756
Another problem you would have is that now the keys are tied to the country of origin which would mean that you would get the Dutch version the following year. I know that is how the new keys are working, but I'm not sure if it will work the same way with a 2006 key. If you purchase your own product now, you have to be careful about where the product is coming from so that you end up getting the language you want.
I am in a similar boat, I have a Greek key and will update using it in a couple of weeks time. I have been reliably informed by the good people on these forums that it isn't a problem now but next year I and yourself if you use the Dutch key, would have to uninstall completely and download the 'en' (English) version and install that one otherwise the auto upgrade for example would read the old key and download in that language, ugh! Don't know why they had to change this.
Hello brummie
You can avoid that problem by just getting the download link from the Forum in what ever language you want if that language is available.
Brummie:
Just avoid going through the Norton Update Center, and, as floplot mentioned, get the full installation package from the direct download link, which, for the English version, should be something along the lines of, www norton com/nis12 when NIS 2012 is released next year :-)
To Floplot and Yaso_Kuuhl,
Thanks for your replies.
It is such a shame Symantec have changed the language rules in the updating process. Reading these forums it would appear that quite a few people have had problems when using a 'foreign bought' licence key! If your setup is in say English, then it should auto pick up and download in that language. I dare say that come this time next year it may well change again. I shall just have to remember not to use the auto upgrade facility offered, which is a shame as it worked so well for me with the past two NIS yearly upgrades.
If it hadn't been for me reading these forums I wouldn't have known about this and would have let Norton do it's auto upgrade thing next year and would have been horror struck to find the UI in Greek.......
Hello brummie
As you say, it may change by next year again. We will have to wait and see. Thanks.
