I use Ghost 14 and Windows XP Home SP3.
I have an external hard drive (Western Digital My Book Essential 3TB) that connects via USB 2. I use it exclusively for Ghost backups.
When the external drive is connected and I click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the system tray, I get this error message: "The 'Generic volume' cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later."
Western Digital says this problem usually is caused by a virus program, by indexing the drive, or by a third-party program continuously accessing the drive.
1. I set Norton Internet Security AntiVirus to ignore the exterior drive in scans and in auto-protect.
2. I turned off indexing for all drives.
3. I checked Windows Task Manager. No applications were running. (See below for a list of processes running.)
But I still get the error message, even after I rebooted.
QUESTIONS:
1. Could Ghost 14 be continuously accessing the external drive and therefore causing the problem?
2. If so, is there anything I can do about it?
