#1:  Does it backup everything?  Again, my goal is to have it do a complete backup every night (automatically), no incrementals.

#2:  What does the backup look like?  That is, can I look at my removable drive and see all the directories like I can on my C: drive?  Or does it create some sort of special huge proprietary file that only Ghost can look at?  Both drives are approximately same size (200+GB), so the need for compression isn't a factor.

#3:  Will it fulfill my goals?  That is, backup automatically each night and provide capability to do a full disk restore or an individual file restore.

1) You have the option of creating a full disk image, or an image of specific files and folders. So yes, this is an option available through Norton Ghost 14.

2) The images that are created can be explored either with Ghost or Windows Explorer. Explorer mounts the image as a "drive" so you can explore it.

3)  Yes and yes. It might be helpful to look over the Norton Ghost 14 User Guide for more information about the functionality of the product. Thanks!

Thanks!  That helped alot.

One more question.  What about backing-up "Files in Use"?  Will these still be backed-up?  I'm concerned that if some files are skipped (especially system files), I may not really have a fully functional backup.

Ghost 14 should back up files that are in use.  The only thing is too much change to the files during the imaging process it might interupt the backup process, but changes where made in Ghost 12 and 14 that should minimize this potential problem.

Thanks again, that’s what I needed to know.  Certain files are open (like databases), but they aren’t being changed during the backup; so I think this is what I need.
